Positive Youth Development & Trauma-informed Classrooms
This session will empower participants to use a “trauma-lens” to inform and strengthen best educational practices and approaches to classroom management, behavior management, active participation, and engagement.
Earn a CUNY Certificate of Completion and CTLE Credit for Professional and Level III Teaching Assistant certificate holders.
The concept of “trauma-informed” care has evolved over the last three decades and the applicability varies across different settings and sectors. Because so much early research focused on the aftermath of traumatic events and experiences and how to help people negatively impacted heal and recover, many believe trauma-informed care is the sole purview of psychologists, clinicians, and social workers. This workshop will refute that myth.
This session will empower educators to use a “trauma-lens” to inform and strengthen best educational practices and approaches to classroom management, behavior management, active participation and engagement. Participants will gain a basic understanding of what trauma is and ways to identify and address it in your classroom (or learning community).
