Scriptural Encouragement
In Matthew 17, Peter, James and John all see the unveiled glory of Jesus. It's famously referred to as the "Transfiguration" of Jesus. In that moment the disciples saw Jesus' internal worth, glory, purity and supremacy. I was amazed this week to see the ways this moment influenced Peter as he wrote 2 Peter. He writes in 1:16-21:
"16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

What's striking about this literal mountain top experience is how little Peter actually describes it. He doesn't even mention that Moses and Elijah were there! Instead, Peter wants us to know about this so that we will "pay attention" to God's word (v. 19). For Peter, this encounter simply affirmed his already well-placed confidence in God's word. So often, we're tempted to chase mountain top experiences, or think that we need mountain top experiences in order to be spiritually mature. But Peter says, "No. All that you need is already in the "prophetic word", that is, the Scriptures. Let us press on to rest in the beauty and sufficiency of God's word every day!

UPDATED: Worship Gathering Plans
We will continue to gather in person for worship at Discovery church this Sunday at 10:30AM. The usual precautions will be in place.  IN ADDITION : We have overflow now available in the fellowship/Gathering Grounds side of our building. We have a hard-line connection to the TV in the fellowship area where the service can be viewed if you want to be present but would also like a little more physical distance than the worship center provides. The Live-stream will also be available.

*NURSERY is NOW AVAILABLE:  This Sunday our nursery will be open and staffed during the morning worship service. Thanks to volunteers like Courtney Frederick our Nursery policies and procedures were already designed to protect and nurture children as well as guard against the spread of germs. Our volunteers will continue to abide by these procedures and care well for all the children in the nursery.
