2020 Legislative Session
Several of the bills we monitored during session were presented to Governor Ron DeSantis this week, and he has 15 consecutive days to sign them into law or veto them. We continue to monitor those legislative movements, and we will provide updates as they occur. Additionally, Governor DeSantis has until June 30th to finish his review of Florida's upcoming FY20/21 budget.

Please continue to encourage your communities and networks to complete the census. At this point in time, only 58.4% of Florida homes have completed the census .
Governor DeSantis Provides Guidelines to
Reopen Schools in Fall 2020
On Thursday June 11th, Governor DeSantis and Commissioner Richard Corcoran announced recommendations for local communities to consider as they finalize plans to re-open safe and healthy schools that are set up for success. This plan outlines the nearly $475 million in state directed education financial assistance provided to Florida through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. In total, more than $2 billion in education-related aid was provided through the CARES Act.

Approximately only 58.4% of households in Florida have completed the Census.

Only 55.5% of households in Miami-Dade have responded.

Please reach out your networks and remind them that federal funding for Florida relies on an accurate count. Programs for health care, education, transportation and housing; strategic planning for private and public organizations and representation depend on an accurate count.
 A complete and correct count in Florida’s communities help young children thrive because communities will receive their fair share to support programs, such as health insurance, hospitals, child care, food assistance, schools, and early childhood development.
