October 2019 As the final stone was placed in the sanctuary's retaining wall, there was an exhale of sheer wonder. For embedded in the intricate masonry, a budding sun with outstretched beams sits with artistic mastery — a permanent testament that beauty will always rise at this special place. Our vision for a brighter future is literally set in stone.
From day one, the sanctuary has been a beacon for those inspired to make a difference in this world. All the progress to date is due to these special individuals, partnerships and organizations. This year alone, over 212 volunteers from 11 corporations dedicated their time and energy to the sanctuary. They brought smiles and laughter as they constructed our community garden beds, moved mountains of mulch, dug up invasive plants and set up for events. Add to that, supporters from all over the country "joined the hive" and donated to the sanctuary's apiary project. In one week, our campaign goal was reached, allowing us to build a new apiary that will support bee colonies and educate on conservation. And this is just the beginning.
It's a new dawn at the sanctuary and we can't wait to show you what's over the horizon.

| Preliminary sitework at the property is complete and the transformation remarkable! The 300 foot curved fieldstone retaining wall now stands as a permanent landmark to the sanctuary's strength and vision. In addition, all 30 raised garden beds are finished and ready for planting in the spring. What a year it has been! |

| Through sanctuary field trips and classroom teaching, we've been busy sharing the wonders of the natural world with hundreds of students. Not only that but our September's "Sunday at the Sanctuary" event welcomed over 300 people as we tagged monarch butterflies, explored the meadows and shared all the ways to protect pollinators. |

 Wildlife Tip When it comes to feeding birds, not all food is healthy. Bread is like junk food to our feathered friends and can leave them vitamin deficient and lead to serious health issues. Also, never use bacon grease in homemade suet as the preservatives are highly harmful to birds. Always opt for seeds, nuts and berries to keep birds healthy and happy. Learn More |

 At Home Do you have dead trees on your property that don't pose any dangers? Consider leaving them for wildlife. Holes from woodpeckers create homes for countless animals and insects. In fact, experts say there are more animal species in one dead tree than in an entire forest combined!
