Board approves Assessment Plan for 2018-2019
Plan outlines federal, state, and local assessments
Students in PreK through high school participate in a wide range of assessments as part of the instructional process.
The School Board on Aug. 23 approved the 2018-2019 plan, which includes federal- and state-mandated assessments, as well as locally-developed assessments.
Here are some of the most widely administered assessments:
- The state requires the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) in language arts and math for grades 3-8, and science in grades 5 and 8. End-of-Course (EOC) exams are required when students complete certain courses in grades 8-12.
- Early Childhood: Speed Dial-4 is a developmental screening for children ages 2-5.
- Pre-Kindergarten Screening.
- Northwest Evaluation Association identifies reading and mathematics levels.
- AIMSweb - for students receiving intervention or special education services.
- Fountas & Pinnell is used to measure reading levels for students K-5.
- The Reading Inventory measures reading level in students grades 9-12.
- Advanced Placement exams and International Baccalaureate assessments for students who complete AP and IB courses.
Once again, the plan gives High School juniors the option of four assessments, including the ACT, funded by the District. In spring 2019, juniors may choose from:
- ACT, the national college admissions exam
- ACT WorkKeys, which measures workplace readiness in three key areas
- ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)
- Accuplacer, an assessment to evaluate skills in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. The scores are used by the Metropolitan Community Colleges to determine a student's placement for English and math coursework.
The District also administers assessments to determine eligibility into the gifted program and to
identify and support Special Education students.

District sets total tax levy at $5.3622
Levy reflects a net 45-cent increase after voter approval of Prop RP
The School Board on Aug. 23 approved the 2018 tax levy rate at $5.3622. The 2018 rate includes an operating levy of $4.4265 and a debt service levy of $0.9357. The approval followed a public hearing.
The rate reflects a net increase of 45 cents over the 2017 rate due to voter approval of Prop R-P in April 2018. The increase is helping fund key elements in the Strategic Plan, including additional hands-on learning opportunities for students, expanding Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math opportunities for students, expanding mental health supports, reducing gaps in achievement, competitive salaries and benefits, and facility maintenance and upkeep.
The 2017 rate of $4.9122 was a decrease from the rate of $5.0397 that had been in place since 2004. The rate is calculated based on the assessed valuation of real estate and personal property in the District. The rate decreased in 2017 to offset increases in property values due to reassessment. |

Holiday weekend begins with early release on Aug. 31
Staff development planned for Aug. 31
All Ray-Pec schools will dismiss early on Friday, Aug. 31, to allow staff to participate in planned professional development activities. The high school will dismiss at 11:46 a.m.; the middle schools at 11:50 a.m., and the elementary schools at 1:05 p.m.
No school Sept. 3 and 4
Ray-Pec schools will not be in session on Monday, Sept. 3, for the Labor Day holiday, and Tuesday, Sept. 4, for professional development activities.
