SCHOOL NEWS
BACK-TO-SCHOOL INFORMATION

If you have missed all of the Back to Business Days, you may visit the school office on weekday mornings between 9:00-11:00 AM before the first day of school. Students will be able to get their schedules, lockers, and ORCA cards, as well as pay fees. Students will not be able to get their computers until the first day of school.

For more information, please visit the school website here .
PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TRAFFIC HELP—FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL

FREE COFFEE IN THE MORNING!

Assistant Principal Robin Moore is looking for volunteers to help direct parking lot traffic for the first two weeks of school. She is looking for morning support from 7:45 - 8:30 AM for the first two weeks, as well as after-school support on the first two Wednesdays from 1:15 - 1:45 PM.

She and her team will be happy to train volunteers; it's quick and easy. They will supply vests, signs, light sticks, coffee, and huge amounts of gratitude to any family members willing to help.

Please consider helping out—student safety in the parking lot is a huge priority, and it can be a very busy place during the few weeks of school.

Email [email protected] to sign up.
SIDEWALK PROJECT TO TEMPORARILY IMPACT TRAFFIC, THEN IMPROVE STUDENT SAFETY

The City of Bellevue is going to be conducting a construction project along 128th Avenue that will impact the first month or so of school. While this timing is not ideal, it will provide sidewalks for the community that will improve pedestrian safety and allow International School students in particular a bit more space delineated away from traffic when they are out on their PE runs.

For more information, see the City of Bellevue website page describing the project or the project flyer.
HIGH SCHOOL RETREAT CHAPERONES NEEDED

Thursday, September 6, 8:00 AM through Friday, September 7, 3:00 PM

The school is in need of chaperones for the High School Retreat at Warm Beach. Their greatest need is for overnight chaperones—both male and female—to stay in cabins with students. They also need some of those same chaperones to ride to and from the camp on buses, chaperone during the Thursday afternoon sessions and Friday morning meetings, as well as chaperone during meals and evening events. They understand that some parents can be available overnight but may need to drive separately after work or late in the afternoon.

Please consider volunteering for this valuable student experience!
If you can help, please contact Lee Holt at:  [email protected] or Tamara Truax at: [email protected].
NEW TO INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL INFO NIGHT

Tuesday, September 11, 5:00 PM

This presentation is for families new to International School and will cover many topics, including much of the technology used by teachers, parents, and students. It is not a repeat of the 5th Grade Barbecue presentation, so even if you attended that event, you will want to attend this one too.

MAKE SURE STUDENTS ARE READY FOR LUNCH ON DAY ONE

Check out the BSD lunch menu here, and remember that because IS is a combined high school and middle school, our cafeteria only offers the high school menu (at the high school price).

Set up school lunch payments at PayPAMS.
IMPORTANT SCHOOL DROP-OFF AND PICKUP   INFORMATION

Drop-off and pickup are very busy times in our small lot, and our number one concern is the safety of your children. Please respect these rules :

  • Stay out of the bus lane at all times.

  • Be courteous and allow vehicles—alternating from the north and south—to enter from 128th Avenue S.E.

  • Try leaving just 10 minutes earlier in the morning. It can have a significant impact on how long you wait in line to drop-off.

  • Make sure students have all of the items they need for school ready to go upon approaching the drop-off zone so they can exit your vehicle quickly.

  • Do not cut through the permitted parking area during morning drop-off.

  • Do not allow your child to exit your vehicle on 128th Avenue S.E. Allowing your child to jaywalk across the southbound lane is especially dangerous!

  • Help to decrease unnecessary traffic at drop-off and pickup by using BDS's Metro Transit bus services. Information can be found here.

  • Parking is very limited at IS. Only park in the visitor spots located directly in front of the school—all other spots are assigned to staff and students. Please do not park in any assigned spots before and during school hours, even if you plan on only being in the school a minute. If there are no spots, you will need to find a legal spot to park on the street. The streets closest to the school are permit-parking only.

Thank you for driving carefully!
SUPER HANDY SCHEDULE!

Try filling out this handy schedule with class, room, and teacher info to help your student remember where to go, at what time, on which day.
