Lake Nona Middle School

This coming Tuesday evening we will be hosting our August School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting. This is a very important group that offers guidance as part of our continuing school improvement efforts throughout the school year. All members of our school community are encouraged to attend.

This past week we announced our 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year and Support Person of the Year (story below). If you happen to see Ms. Powers or Mr. Vega on campus in the coming days, kindly take a moment to congratulate them. This is a very prestigious annual award as it is based upon votes from their peers and colleagues from across the school. We are very proud of their well deserved achievement.

Make it a great week #3 Knights!

In Knights Honor,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Digital Parent Knight
LNMS has transformed into digital one-to-one campus this school year.

We had a packed house and were able to address many digital needs that night. Parents were prepared with devices and followed along for pairing their Canvas accounts and learning about ProgressBook. We also had Spanish and Portuguese interpreters following along in another room to help all parents with understanding the digital connection in their child's classes.

Most of our LNMS parents met in the cafeteria...

...but we also had a smaller presentation in a classroom with Spanish and Portuguese interpreters.

Knight Teacher of the Year
Sharon Powers - Media Specialist

"Sharon qualifies to be Teacher of the Year at Lake Nona Middle because of her dedication, hard work, and exquisite preparation in planning the digital implementation for the upcoming year. As part of the DCTL team, she has outdone herself and has stood out from the rest. Her knowledge, expertise, and ability in sharing her wealth of knowledge is impeccable. Her ability to teach others and provide help to those who need it is both professional, humbling, and inspirational. Ms. Powers is a true Knight and is there for students, parents, and her colleagues."

"Everything about Ms. Powers is amazing!!! She does fantastic work in our media center with our students! She has created a warm and inviting environment in the media center for our students! She has also been a key player in our transition to a digital school. From helping all staff learn and understand Canvas, to making sure every student has a device before the first day, there is not a thing this amazing lady can't do!"

Knight Support Person of the Year
John Vega - Technology Specialist

"Mr. Vega will always do anything he can to help anyone on this campus at any time. He has been a key player in our transition into a digital school, and works with every teacher with patience."

"As our school has utilized more and more new technology, Mr. Vega has always had our materials organized and made sure he was available to assist with any issues. He is one person handling many issues and he does so in a calm and kind manner every time."

Tie In
Future Business Leaders of America

Ms. Ward, the sponsor for the Future Business Leaders of America Club, encouraged her students to bring a neck tie to class to help them understand the importance of dress code in the business world. Mr. Rosado (assistant principal),  Mr. Cordo (security guard) and Mr. Berson (8th grade dean), all assisted in helping groups of students with instructions on how to tie a neck tie.

Knight Clubs

This past week was rush week on campus. Students discovered that LNMS has over 30 clubs, organizations, and athletics to participate in this year. Clubs rushed students with their posters and PowerPoint slides during each grade level lunch. There are many reasons to join student organizations such as gaining leadership skills or learning to work with a team, but the simplest reason is to just have fun! All clubs will be posted on our website.
