LUM Citizenship Classes - Preparation Has Begun

Fall Session Starts Tuesday, September 4

The
LUM
Immigration Clinic
in collaboration with Lafayette Adult Resource Academy will offer free
Citizenship Classes
for persons interested in learning more about US history and government. Fall session classes begin on
September 4
, and are held twice a week until October 4. LUM Citizenship Classes are coordinated by Karen Countryman with assistance from Scott Frankenberger.
Karen & Scott met with the volunteer teachers for the LUM
Citizenship Classes
this week to prepare the curriculum. The James F.
Ackerman Center for Democratic Citizenship
at Purdue University donated textbooks, maps & teacher’s manual and also assists with developing the framework for the lesson plans. This program could not be offered without these talented volunteer teachers. Volunteers are needed to teach and bring refreshments. Spanish speaking volunteers are especially needed.

Evie Griffin & Rob Krasa - LUM Interns

Evie Griffin — LUM Intern
Originally from Estonia, Evie grew up in Marion County and now lives in Cutler, Indiana with her husband of seven years, Timothy, and their 15-month old son. She is a naturalized US citizen. After graduating from high school, Evie enlisted in the US Marine Corp, where she met her husband, and served for five years in various locations including southeast Asia. She earned a bachelor's degree in social work from IUPUI and is currently enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at the Indiana University School of Social Work (Indianapolis). Upon graduation in 2019, Evie will pursue a career working with policy and administration.

Robert Krasa — LUM Intern
Rob is from Toledo, Ohio and now lives in Lafayette with his wife, Jessie, who also grew up in Toledo. He earned a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Toledo and and is currently enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at the Indiana University School of Social Work (Indianapolis). Before pursuing his Master of Social Work, Rob worked for nine years in community mental health counseling and group program development. Upon graduation in 2019, he will pursue a career in policy and leadership.

Drivers Needed - St. John's/LUM Food Pantry

Drivers Needed to Pick Up, Deliver & Unload Food
|
|
The
St. John's/LUM Food Pantry
is in need of drivers. Drivers must be able to lift food items, have a valid driver's license in good standing, and have access to a pick-up truck, large SUV or minivan.
Duties are as follows:
Monday Driver
- Needed first Monday of each month
- Arrive at Food Finders Food Bank (1210 N 10th Street, Lafayette) between 12:30 - 1 p.m.
- Pick-up small order and any other free items you deem appropriate
- Drive food to St. John's/LUM Food Pantry (600 Ferry Street, Lafayette), unload food, and take banana boxes back to Food Finders Food Bank
- Usually done by 2 p.m.
Wednesday Driver
- Needed first and/or third Wednesday of each month
- Arrive at St. John's/LUM Food Pantry (600 Ferry Street, Lafayette) at 1:30 p.m.
- Unload items from delivery truck
- Load up & drive banana boxes back to Food Finders Food Bank (1210 N 10th Street, Lafayette)
- Usually done by 2:30 p.m.
St. Tom's Driver
- Needed first Monday of each month at 11 a.m.
- Pick-up food at St. Thomas Aquinas Church (535 W State Street, West Lafayette) at 11 a.m.
- Bring to St. John's/LUM Food Pantry (600 Ferry Street, Lafayette)
- Load into the back for volunteers to weigh and put away at another time
