Living Authentic Faith

Beginning a new yearly discipline, the secondary student body has used the first few weeks' morning gatherings, connection assemblies, and Friday afternoon events to focus on authentic faith. Staff and student leaders have led the student population in studying what God's Word says about fully living out  the Christian faith. This past Friday, students practiced applying what they are learning by brainstorming ways to live authentic faith within the walls of Lake Pointe. Then, next week, students will practice living their faith off campus through service visits to t he Rock Hill Palmetto Crisis Pregnancy Center and Morning Side Nursing Home.

What Makes You Special
In second grade science, students observe their fingerprints as they discover God's unique design of each one of them.

The Height of a Number
Kindergartners play a block stacking game as they practice counting and recognizing numbers.

Never nor Ever
Secondary small groups played lively games of Never-Have-I-Ever as a way to get to know each other better at the start of the year. Here, student leader Noah Rodgers leads the 7th and 8th grade small group in their game.

Concentrating on Concentration
Mrs. Tilley led physical science students in a lab on the concentration of liquids. Students used various concentrations of vinegar to dissolve antacid tablets, observing how the concentration changes the rate of dissolving.

Common Prayer
Mr. Miller leads the 10th grade western civilization class in examining the differences between Roman Catholic and early protestant worship by practicing liturgical worship through the Book of Common Prayer.

The sports teams are hitting their stride.

Cross Country: Mariners become Mountain Men
To build stamina, Coach Stephanie Lewin has her charges charging -- charging up the inclines of nearby Nanny's Mountain. She has been coaching them in techniques for running the types of hills they will encounter on the various Cross Country courses they will face. The preparation will be tested in the team's first meet this coming Thursday at Clover High.

Volleyball team claws back to claim two "come from behind" victories
Twice in the last week on road trips, the girls' volleyball team rallied to claim victories. Down two games to one at Oakwood in Anderson, the Mariners fought back all the way to the fifth game for the victory, its first in conference play.  Then Thursday, playing against the Junior Varsity team at York High School, LPA started with a lost first game, before roaring back to win in the final game by just two points! York has 1,600 high school students; LPA has about 70 students in grades 9-12! This test of focus and perseverance gives the girls positive momentum.
Other early matches so far, including local opponents like Westminster-Catawba Christian (Rock Hill) and Piedmont Charter (Gastonia) are non-conference games. These matches are important for variety and challenge, but are not in the SCACS Piedmont conference.

Boys' soccer makes Miraculous Mariner Magic
Down two goals to one with less than a minute to play at Arborbrook in Indian Trail, NC, the boys' soccer team walked off the field as 3-2 winners. What? Excuse me? Did they kick a field goal? A foul called against Arborbrook allowed a free kick for LPA at mid field. The opponents set up to disrupt the expected pass, but Noah Rodgers simply kicked the long ball over the goalkeeper and into the goal. In the waning seconds, the Mariners quickly worked the ball in for another score, when a foul gave LPA a penalty kick. Cale Rabe scored the PK goal and left the host opponents scratching their heads at how the victory escaped them.
The Mariners are 3-0 for the season, with another non conference home match Friday against Comenius of Fort Mill.
