Advanced Ayurveda: Listening to Your Body’s Signals
by Linda Egenes on May 22, 2020
When it comes to health, we each have our own unique story to tell. My personal health journey started at a young age when my parents taught me to eat fresh fruits and vegetables and whole wheat bread, a truly revolutionary idea in the 1960s, when Wonder Bread was king. I was rarely sick and only remember going to a doctor twice—once for a bad bout of poison ivy and another time when I stepped on barbed wire and needed a tetanus shot.

So it was a big surprise that as I entered my mid-twenties, I no longer felt so healthy. I suffered from congestion and blocked sinuses every spring, sometimes with a productive cough that would keep me at home for an entire month. For the first time in my life, I took antibiotics, but eventually the antibiotics didn’t work. Something was clearly out of balance, and I didn’t have a clue how to feel better. And there’s nothing worse than feeling bad and not knowing what’s wrong.

Fortunately, I was soon introduced to the practical science of Maharishi Ayurveda. I learned that spring is the Kapha time of year, when the heavy, cold, sticky qualities of Kapha dosha predominate. I found that if I cut back on dairy foods—and especially ice cream—I could avoid the build-up of ama, the sticky byproduct of undigested food that is the cause of most imbalances. It was incredibly helpful to learn how to adjust my diet with the seasons, and I was amazed at how one simple change solved such a big problem in my life.

The most happy I can recall...
Maharishi Yagyas are powerful technologies to nourish all of creation
and enliven peace in the individual and our world family. Every Yagya
performed – whether large or small – helps reduce negativity and increase coherence in collective consciousness.
Question: What are the transforming dynamics of Yagya?
Maharishi restored the crucial understanding and proper practice that the Vedic sounds should be projected from awareness grounded in the Para (Transcendental) level of speech, where the link between sound and form – between desire and fulfilment of desire – is intimately connected and enormously powerful.

This skill, of necessity, incorporates the practice of Yoga – the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programs, including long Yogic Flying – and the resulting enlivenment of the Transcendent source of speech prior to the recitation and performance of Yagya. Only Maharishi Vedic Pandits have this crucial training and skill.

For a more complete explanation, listen to John Hagelin, Ph.D., a world-renowned quantum physicist, and National Director of the Transcendental Meditation Program.
Update on Opening the Golden Domes, and What We Can Do Right Now to Amplify Our Coherence
Some of you have asked me about reopening the Golden Domes, which I am very eager to do. I have been watching and waiting for that opportunity.

Iowa, with over 23,000 COVID-19 cases, is still hovering at a peak plateau. Jefferson County has seen enough new cases in the last 1-2 weeks that many have called for me to close the dining hall or even shutter the campus—which, of course, I cannot do. (I should add that, through an abundance of caution and vigilance,  no one who resides on the MIU Campus has contracted the coronavirus .)

While this is far from panic time, it calls for continuing caution. Many states and areas that are relaxing their rules are experiencing record spikes, which is all over the news this morning.

We have always had strong rules in place to ensure the safety of the Domes. Today, the unusually contagious nature of the virus and the high-risk age demographic of our cherished Super-Radiance heroes force me to adhere to Maharishi’s principle of Safety First.  For right now!

Then, what can we do to help relieve the national unease and disharmony?

Synchronizing our meditations , even  at a distance , will amplify the effect we are having—both on ourselves and on the larger society.

Maharishi said our effect goes out through “all levels of Natural Law.” When we meditate at the same time, though not in close visual and auditory proximity to each other, we are synchronized on the deepest level of pure consciousness. At the level of the unified field, distance is non-existent. Our collective effect will permeate the country, even the world.  So let us please stay synchronized on that deepest level when we meditate, and let us all lift off at the same time.

Long ago, Maharishi set up synchronized meditations by time zones around the world—because it amplified our effect. What we are trying to accomplish now with synchronized meditation is exactly that.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for us to synchronize our meditations to create coherence for our country, which is in the throes of an acute phase transition. Let us all do our best to create a ground of coherence, to ensure the most positive possible outcome.

Our lift-off times are 8:15 AM and 5:45 PM.

Please join us at this crucial time.
President Hagelin
A Vision Whose Time has Come
In 1989 Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founded MAHEDCO, Heaven on Earth Development Corporation, to popularize the restoration of Vedic architecture and assist developers who wanted to build communities using this knowledge.
A booklet from the corporation’s inauguration contained a comprehensive vision by Maharishi of cities of the future, which he called “Cities of the Immortals”.

Not surprisingly, in many areas, his vision closely matches what is being envisioned and desired now by city and town planners, alert, concerned citizens, and forward thinking leaders in all areas of life.

Here are a few of the elements Maharishi attributed to this ideal community:
  1. These developments will feature beautiful homes set in parks and gardens in a noise-free, pollution-free, stress-free, and secure environment.
  2. Built on the outskirts of existing cities, they will inspire people living in the congested cities to move there and enjoy an ideal quality of life.

Thanks to your tremendous generosity, we have almost reached our goal of matching the $100,000 donation, gifted to Maharishi School by a few generous supporters.

Help us end the school year on a high note! FOR THE NEXT SIX DAYS, from now until June 30, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar. We are adapting to the many needs of the COVID situation and need your support. Our plan is to start the 2020-21 school year in-person with many precautions to provide a safe, healthy learning environment, while also prepared for online learning if necessary.
With your donation, we can reach our goal!

“Fulfilling Your Purpose”: Wisdom from Dr. Hassan Tettah, Heart Surgeon 12:28
U.S. Dept. of Defense Health Mission Chief shares his story BY MICHAEL STERNFELD

This article is dedicated to the medical professionals on the front lines dealing with COVID-19 and all its ramifications for us personally and collectively.

When I first met Hassan Tetteh, M.D., M.B.A., we were preparing for his participation in the Maharishi International University (MIU) ChangeMakers event,  Is College Bad for Your Brain?  As the Command Surgeon and chief medical advisor for the National Defense University, we asked him to speak on the effects of stress in the college environment. On June 2, 2020, he also spoke with  TM Talks: “What Lies Ahead? Dealing with a Drastically Changing World.”

I was struck by the professional depth of this man who is a renowned heart and lung transplant surgeon, Health Mission Chief at the U.S. Department of Defense for a new division integrating artificial intelligence into the medical field, U.S. Navy Captain, Associate Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and thoracic (heart and lung) surgeon at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Dr. Hassan Tetteh is the Health Mission Chief at the U.S. Department of Defense, among other positions of teaching and service.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Tetteh is the best-selling author of four books—Gifts of the Heart, The Art of Human Care, Star Patrol, and Success Strategies—among many other achievements.

TM in the News
What is Transcendental Meditation and how can it help you?

Meditation has an amazing history of transforming lives. In today’s world when everyone is chasing the best, several types of meditation help people stay in the moment. One such type of meditation is Transcendental Meditation.
What is Transcendental Meditation?
Introduced by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Transcendental Meditation, or TM was brought to the U.S. in the 1960s. It is an effortless way of promoting a state of calmness and relaxed awareness accompanied by a list of long-term benefits – coming back to it in a bit.

Derived from the Indian Vedic tradition, TM is practiced in a comfortable position with eyes closed. The star feature that separates TM from other forms of meditation is the chanting of a mantra. A mantra is a holy sound that directs your concentration.

Studies around the world advocates for innumerable positive benefits of Transcendental Meditation. Let’s find out what they are.

Pandemic Paradox: The Crisis Is A Blessing

The coronavirus may seem like a collective catastrophe, but it is actually a wakeup call to humanity to change our destructive ways
A crisis, like a global pandemic, arises because Nature is trying to teach us a lesson.

A crisis is a situation created through an inability to live in accordance with natural law — the laws of Nature governing the Universe. The crisis is the signal, the red light, alerting us to change direction in order to avert a perilous danger lying ahead. Nature always knows best how to organize. Nature also always gives us whatever is best for our growth and evolution.

Nature is like a mother. When a child errs, the mother always acts to correct her offspring.

The coronavirus is the voice of Mother Nature leading humanity to a higher level of understanding and functioning. It is Mother Nature’s way of clearing the obstacles which have accumulated on the path of human evolution. If our collective mistakes are not corrected now, global extinction could be the result.

So, what is the message of this current crisis? This is the time to go inward. Stay inside. Staying in doesn’t just mean stay in one’s house. It means: Go Within. Reflect on what we as human beings are doing to our planet.

What are we prioritizing in our life? Is it the mad pursuit of wealth for ourselves or is it shared human values? Are we allowing the exploitation of the masses by a few billionaires or are we dedicated to sharing our natural resources to alleviate poverty in the world? Is material progress more important to us than spiritual development? Is a health-oriented lifestyle or chronic disease becoming widespread? What is the reason for the present scenario? How have we as individuals contributed to it?
