" Justified "

(Click on Scripture Passage)
I'm a word guy. I've always preferred reading and writing; arithmetic, not so much. I love crossword puzzles; Sudoku, not so much. So I enjoy a lot of the word play that takes place in Scripture. Often we have to dig into the Hebrew and Greek to really see it but sometimes it works in English as well.

This week we are playing with the words righteousness and justification. Righteous and justified. You may think they mean pretty much the same thing and you would be correct. So how can we make sense of a story that seems to set up these (almost) synonyms as opposed to each other?

The parable focus is on a righteous Pharisee and a tax collector who is justified.
On the surface we might think the point is to be like the tax collector and not the Pharisee but that interpretation carries it's own set of issues. The Pharisee was actually a pretty good guy, the tax collector was not.

In seeking God's approval or blessing is it really simply about attitude and not our striving to live the Christian life?

Join us for worship on Sunday at 10:30 AM as we consider the righteous Pharisee and the justified tax collector. Who are we in this story? Who should we want to be?

Blessings and peace,
Danny

Christian Ministry Needs

Christian Ministry of Lincolnton is in need of the following items:

  • toilet paper
  • bar soap
  • toothpaste
  • laundry detergent

Please bring to church and place on the pew by the office or drop them off yourself at Christian Ministry.
How are we doing in our "gratitude responses?" I am finding I now remember to say "I'm grateful" about 70% of the time. I've also found that sometimes it just doesn't fit the situation and that's okay. I'm grateful for Maddie and Olivia's faithful presence in worship and their art! Pastor Danny
