ST. JOHN'S FLY FISHERS
St. John's Fly Fisher, Craig Murden, recently wrote a story about a special fly fishers trip. Please the read the beginning of his story below:
" Streamside Experience: God by Our Side
St. John’s fly fishers Brad Smith and Dan Robertson experienced something very special recently while fishing in the NC mountains. They had a young deer come by their side and stayed with them for an hour and a half.
Dan yelled over to Brad, about 30 yards away while along Helton Creek, wading along the creek bank, “Brad, check this out!” The young buck, with antler nubs beginning to show was right next to Dan, calmly present with him. Dan reached and could even pet him. The young deer made its way over to Brad and the same thing happened. Brad said the deer even splashed in the water next to him, playing and nudging Brad with his nose. This closeness remained for the next hour or so, they both said."

BOOK RELEASE WEBINAR
"The Unexpected Gift: Profiles in Courage from Cancer Survivorship"
Thursday, July 30, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
In 2019, Dr. Ophelia Garmon-Brown, friend and speaker at our Adult Forums, organized a team of Novant Healthcare colleagues and embarked upon an adventure interviewing over twenty different individuals living with cancer. Each person was asked to write a chapter detailing their experiences of how this disease has been part of their life, what they've learned, and how they've changed. She graciously invited me to join her in this book project:  The Unexpected Gift: Profiles in Courage from Cancer Survivorship,  by Dr. Ophelia Garmon-Brown, Stuart Horwitz, et al. On Thursday, July 30, from 7:00pm-8:30pm, you're invited to virtually attend this book release webinar. You'll hear from panelists, such as Dr. Garmon-Brown and five of the chapter authors, including me, as we share of our ongoing walk with cancer, reading excerpts from our chapters, and engage in conversation.  No registration...just click the link below to join the webinar.
In Christ, Brad+

Hello St. John’s,
In pre-pandemic time my office door would have been open to you to pop in for a chat. Also, I would have met with you as a result of an appointment we arranged. Why should that be different now? My office door is now a phone or computer.  Please contact me if you want to talk.  Just send an email to me and we will set up an appointment ( wendy@stje.org ). Peace, Wendy+
HAGAR'S BASKET
In May, Hagar’s began offering a curbside drive thru pantry on the third Wednesday morning of the month!  We have served an average of 14 families each month. Each family receives a prepackaged selection of hygiene and cleaning items.  Heartfelt thanks to everyone for your generosity which found the pantry well stocked before closing in March. This allows us to continue to serve our families during this time of need. As God provides for us, we provide for others!
