As you know, our Board of Trustees has set a new Board Priority which directs the administration to:
“Strengthen the program for safety and security that serves as the model for K-12 by enhancing safety and protecting the positive learning environment by ensuring the personal/social needs of Lovejoy students are met”.
To that end, the district has placed an officer on each of our six campuses as well as hired a Director of Safety and Security with an impressive resume including both military and law enforcement experience. Our campuses are covered by either:
School Resource Officers (SRO), which the district contracts with the Town of Fairview to provide, or
Lovejoy ISD Campus Security Officers who are trained and licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) as School Marshals. The district has three of these trained professionals on staff.
In addition, the district has taken several steps to tighten access to all campuses. We have implemented some measures that will remain confidential as we would not want to advertise our points of strength, which conversely might also identify any potential soft spots as entry points to our campuses.
Finally, we know that rapid response to any emergency including medical needs is of the utmost importance. To that end, we are employing a technology from Enseo, which will result in employees having a Personal Location Device (PLD) attached to their name badge. When an employee presses the button for 3 seconds, a message is sent to the Campus Security Officers as well as the administration team. The message will show the teacher’s name and the room number of their location.
