Weekly News For
Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church
August 26, 2018
This Sunday

It's not too late to join us for the

Church Picnic this Sunday!
Just come no signup needed!

This Sunday's weather will be beautiful. The forecast calls for clear skies with the temperature in the mid 70s going up to the low 80s. Perfect weather for a picnic!

Please join us this Sunday, for the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church's Annual Picnic. It's being held at Riverfront Park, Point Pleasant Boro, from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. We encourage you to come at 10:00 for the informal worship service (we won't be having worship in the church Sanctuary that day), but in fact you can arrive and depart at any time that's convenient.

Everyone's welcome, members and friends of the church alike! Please spread the word...

At our informal worship service, you'll have a chance - if you wish - to share how our hopes and dreams as a church
What are you thankful for that God has already done for our Church?
What ministry has especially grown your faith?
What would you love to see God do for our church?
How does your faith play a part in the hope you have for your church?
In what area would you like to grow spiritually?
What is your prayer for the future of our church?
"For nothing will be impossible with God." Luke 1:37

We will be having Jersey Mike Subs with gluten free options available.  Paper products will also be supplied. Each guest/family, please bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to share as well as your own drinks.

This Sunday will also be Noisy Offering...so bring your spare change and lets make a joyful noise unto the Lord for all of the residents in the Boro to hear.  All change collected supports ministries to relieve hunger locally, regionally, and globally.

So put on your blue church tee shirt, a dish to share, folding chairs, sunglasses, hats, and smiles and join us for a fun-filled day enjoying God's gift of nature with your family and friends. There is a large roofed pavilion that will provide plenty of shade.

Meet Our New Interim Minister at the Picnic This Sunday

The Committee on Ministry of the Monmouth Presbytery approved the call of the Rev. Osvaldo Nüesch  begining September 1, 2018 to serve as the Intentional Interim Minister at PPPC.  We are excited to have him join us and eagerly await his arrival.

This Sunday you will have the opportunity to meet Pastor Osy and his wife Juli as they join us as our guest at the picnic.  Pastor Osy will be preaching the following Sunday, September 2, 2018 at our 10:00 a.m. worship service with Communion.

Osvaldo D. Nüesch was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina into a Swiss family. His spiritual formation took place in The Salvation Army, and continued when he came to the USA in 1975 and after the appropriate preparation becoming involved in full time ministry for ten years. The transition to the Reformed Tradition was formalized while a student at Princeton Theological Seminary from where he graduated in 1993. After Seminary, Osy was the Music Director and Organist at Cary Presbyterian Church and also directed a Community Music School in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was ordained and installed as Pastor of Bensalem Presbyterian Church in 1998 (lower Bucks County, part of the Presbytery of Philadelphia), a congregation he served for over 10 years. In 2008, Pastor Osy accepted a call to serve as the pastor of Six Mile Run Reformed Church, a congregation of the Reformed Church in America, located in Somerset County. He concluded his service there in June so that he may utilize the skills he has acquired in three decades of ministry and as a member of the Interim Ministry Network. Pastor Osy is delighted to commence his intentional interim phase of ministry at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

Pastor Osy has been married to Juli (also a naturalized citizen originally from England) since 1980. Juli is a Human Resources professional in a multi-national company which requires regular travel. Her US office is in Plainsboro, NJ.

Pastor Osy and Juli have two adult children, Son Christopher is married to Erin and they both work in Manhattan and live in Jersey City. Their daughter Carolyn is married to Jeremy. They live with their two children Johannah (3 ½) and John Mark (19 months) in Amarillo Texas.

In his spare time, Pastor Osy likes to play the piano and the cornet, read works of fiction, walk their Golden Retriever pup, and travel with his wife.

We Invite You to Sunday School
It's Time to Register!

We are thrilled to begin Sunday School on Sunday, September 9, 2018 with an exciting NEW curriculum! We will enjoy large and small group learning experiences, amazing Bible story videos, music, worship, dance, games, activities, crafts, and more, as we grow in our faith!

Please enjoy this Preview Video, so you will know what's happening in Sunday School during the month of September.

We invite children from Preschool (age 3+) through grade 5 to join us. Each Sunday morning, the  children will enter the Sanctuary with their parents/guardians to experience the beginning of our 10:00 a.m. worship service. Then, they will leave, supervised by their teachers and Escort Shepherds, and walk across the street to Wilton Hall upstairs in the Education Annex. Following worship, we ask parents to enjoy fellowship at our Coffe e Hour, before they walk over to the Annex to gather their child(ren) from their classroom downstairs at 11:20 a.m.

So that we can prepare efficiently for your arrival, please download the online Sunday School Registration Form, fill-out both sides, and hand deliver or mail to the PPPC Church Office, 701 Forman Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742 as soon as possible. May I suggest an even easier, quicker method? After filling out the form, take a photo with your cell phone of both sides and send it by email to [email protected]. We will, at least, know quickly that you are coming! Then, return the original form with signature on the first day of Sunday School.

If you have questions, please email me directly or leave a message through the church office at (732) 899-0587.

With joy and anticipation,

Presbyterian Women - Get Ready to Start Up

On Monday, August 27th at 9:15 a.m. the Coordinating Team for the Presbyterian Women will be starting back up.  We will meet in the Chittick Lounge.

We are looking forward to another great year of growing in faith, prayer, study, mission, working for peace and justice as well as continuing to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

The PW Directory will be available at that time.

Susan Robbins continues as the PW Moderator. With many different PW circles, there are circles that meet on a variety of days and times. Sue Hankins also continues as the Membership Coordinator.  You can call her at 732-458-3823 to find the right circle for you!    All women in the church and community are welcome to join a circle, and church membership is not required.

Deacons Mark Your Calendar

We will be having our first meeting on Monday, August 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chittick Lounge.  Since Labor Day is the first Monday in September we will meet at the end of August instead.  We will then meet on the first Monday of the month throughout the year.  For questions please contact Moderator Dee D'Amore at 732-552-9861.
Monday is a Rainbow Diner Monday

Join others from our church at the Rainbow Diner for lunch beginning at 12 noon.  Everyone is welcome!  This is a great informal way to fellowship and get to know others from the Church.  The Rainbow Diner is located at 849 NJ-70, Brick, NJ.  We hope to see you there.
