Sermon
"Opening Our Hearts to the Spirit's Moving"

Scripture
Romans 8:26-27, Psalm 51:10-12, Acts 16:14-15,
Ezekiel 11:19-20, Luke 24:32

This Sunday
This week we celebrate the holiday weekend with outdoor worship in the open air and a potluck lunch afterwards. We will combine services and enjoy the company of the entire Aldersgate community together. Our worship will include elements of the order of worship from each service, as well as a few things that we've learned from our combined worship experiences in the last year.
This week is a special week in the life of our congregation, as we move from the summer worship series into our fall programming. We'll be open to the leading of the Spirit among us, for this one special Sunday. We'll bless the students, teachers, and backpacks for the new school year. We'll sing and celebrate together. Join us for worship and lunch. Bring a camp chair or picnic blanket if you have one. Bring a potluck dish to share.

~ Pastor Laura
MINISTRY NEWS
September 2 Worship @ 10:00am
On Labor Day Weekend, weather permitting, we will worship together at  10:00am in the open air courtyard on the lower level of the church.   It will be the last Sunday for Hanae Straub our Chancel Choir director so plan to celebrate her ministry at Aldersgate as well as her new ministry in music education. As we move from the August sermon series into fall programming, we'll gather as one body around the theme of Opening to the Spirit's Movement. We'll celebrate together in combined worship with elements from both first service and second service. We'll have some chairs but seating will be flexible if you prefer to use a camp chair or blanket. This will also be the day we offer back to school blessings for students, teachers, and backpacks. Then after worship, we will have the opportunity to stay and have lunch together. Plan to join us for this all church event!  If you can help with setup, potluck or clean-up please sign up or contact Pastor Laura .

What to bring:
  • a card for Hanae if you know her
  • your school bag if you have one

Staff Vacations - Office Closed
Due to staff vacations there will be times when only volunteers man the church office or the office is closed this summer. It is a good idea to call ahead to see if the church is open before you come. The church office will be closed on Monday, September 3 due to the Labor Day holiday.

Plan to be there to begin this fall and the exploration of a Christ Centered Community together. Between services this week there will be a fellowship time for all ages.
S lide Help Needed
Moving in to the fall, Pastor Laura would like to work with a few other people on designing and organizing the slides for first service worship. The process usually only takes 1-2 hours a week and is a lot of fun for creative, technology-oriented people. Please see Pastor Laura if you are interested, willing to learn the process, and can help as part of a team with this important work for the church.

Sunday School - Coming Soon
On September 16 we will kick-off a new season of Sunday school. We will be use the curriculum called "Dig In" as the kids are in their second year of walking through the Bible from Genesis to Revelations. Kids' Club will continue to be offered at both services and the children will flow from Kids' Club into both Music Time and then Sunday school. There will be three Sunday school classes broken up by age.  Contact is Jen Hoerber.
Support Our Children's Programs

Volunteers are needed to help implement our children's programs.  Please contact Jen Hoerber for more information.

  • Sunday Dinners  bring Club 345 and Youth Group together to share a meal before their fellowship time once a month. There are typically 20-30 children, youth and adult helpers for dinner. If you or your group would like to host a dinner, please sign up on the bulletin board across from the office.
  • Kids' Club  is a fellowship time for kids during the Sunday morning worship services. For first service it typically runs from 9:10-9:45am and for second service it is from 11:15am -12 noon. Kids' Club can consist of all types of activities-art projects, stories, games, and much more. Please consider hosting a Kid's Club and sharing your talents, passion and stories with our children. If you want to host a Kid's Club, but you just aren't sure of what to do, talk with Jen Hoerber as she has some activities all ready to go. You can sign up for only one service or for both, or for just one Sunday or several. Every bit helps!
  • Sunday School  teachers and teacher assistants are needed, so please prayerfully consider helping. No experience is needed. Training is available and the curriculum is very user-friendly!
Pastor's Study - Community According to Jesus
Starts September 19
Starting Wednesday, September 19, Pastor Brad will teach a class that will focus on Jesus, and his views, teachings and actions centered on what it means to be community. We'll examine who is welcome, who belongs, and how Jesus identified each. Jesus changed the whole idea of community, but why and how? To begin we'll examine some of the specific pieces of the Old Testament and the Laws around what constitutes, defines, effects, kills and upholds community. From there we'll begin to examine Jesus as we spend some time in the four gospels. Then we'll take a look at Paul and examine the influence of Jesus on Paul; how Paul viewed and built community, take a look at 15 "One Another" verses, and what they might mean for us.   Click here for more information
