Were your career aspirations inspired by your research project in the Amazon? Did you have a miscommunication with your internship supervisor in India? Did you fall in love in Brazil while doing volunteer work? Share your international adventures in this Moth- like storytelling event! UM Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit a story to share.

SSW Students, staff, faculty or alumni are invited to submit photography reflecting on their identity as a "visitor" when travelling somewhere outside of their home country. Both domestic and international students are encouraged to submit their photos. This reflective photo gallery will be displayed November 4th through November 15th outside of the Office of Student Services.

For those forced to flee their homelands, retaining memories is central to the art of survival. Mexican journalist Emilio Gutiérrez Soto fled his country in 2008 following death threats related to his reporting. For the past 11 years he has been seeking asylum, safety, and peace. Now Gutiérrez Soto is approaching storytelling through art, capturing memories of places he has called home - Chihuahua, New Mexico, and Ann Arbor.

Border Control: Traversing Horizons in Media Practice

Drawn from practices that are touched or driven by new media, Border Control assembles works by artists who consider geographical contexts, patterns of migration, displacement, and statelessness. Collectively, they offer projects with subterfuge, refusal, and reconsideration of imposed state-sanctioned boundaries.
