Fast Track

Life Gets Simpler

The furious pace of technological advancement can sometimes make it difficult to see just how amazing technology is. Who ever thought we would be able to touch a piece of glass and have access to the entire world right in the palm of our hands?
Well, amazing as it might be, as of February 26th, 2018, Iowa's construction industry will have access to the full complement of MBI resources through the newly re-designed, and soon to re-launch, MBI mobile application.

A mobile application can simplify life by providing all the needed information in a format that maximizes usability on the go. This re-launched offering will feature all the basics currently available on MBI's website, while also incorporating access to MBI's Training Vault. In addition, a new members-only section will provide access to member exclusive content to expand the value of your MBI membership.

New WORKSAFE Certified Training Program
CPR/First Aid/AED Certification Offered During Annual Winter Conference
On Friday, Groundhog Phil left his burrow in Punxsutawney, PA and saw his shadow. You know what that means...six more weeks of winter! Regardless of this forecast, we are getting close to peak construction season, which involves a lot of digging, trenches, excavating...and risk!

To help our members perform these activities safely, Master Builders of Iowa is offering Trenching and Excavating: What You Need to Know!
This program is designed for project superintendents, foremen, and other field leadership personnel will address soil types, protection systems, hazard identification, and case study reviews.

We are pleased to announce our brand new training program called WORKSAFE Certified. This new program is a specifically developed safety training that will enhance the knowledge base of jobsite supervisory personnel. To become WORKSAFE Certified, individuals would need to satisfactorily complete a 2-day training curriculum that is primarily focused on hazard awareness and mitigation.

Though this program is not meant to replace a 30-Hour OSHA class, it does provide a higher degree of focus on construction-specific safety education and training. The WORKSAFE Certification is also an important component of the new WORKSAFE Tiered Program. To qualify for an upgraded WORKSAFE Project level, one requirement may be to have representatives holding the WORKSAFE Certified credential.

This new offering will be held in Ankeny, Davenport, Cedar Falls and Coralville. Space is limited to the first 25 enrolled. Don't miss your opportunity to become WORKSAFE Certified!

For more detailed information about the course, please view the brochure. If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Tom Suckow at [email protected] or (515) 250-0773.
For the second consecutive year, CPR/First Aid/AED Certification is being offered during the Annual Winter Conference.  This certification course is not included in the special package pricing, but is priced separately.  Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult CPR/AED, which is valid for two years.

Class size is limited, so register early!

When it comes to the New Year, it has always fascinated me that a simple date on the calendar can bring about such renewed optimism that the future will be better than the past. Many people will use this as a time for promises to be made or New Year's resolutions to be set.

Have you ever thought about the basic purpose of a resolution? In its simplest form, the intent of a resolution is always based in a commitment to change something. We generally understand that for any positive change to take place, it needs to be intentional in nature. Rarely, if ever, will you or your business float into a successful future without knowing how you got there.   >>>Read More

As an industry, we are constantly looking for ways to complete projects faster, more economically, and safely, all while keeping our eye on the pulse of technology and the latest trends. Those in the commercial construction industry understand that as chaotic as this all sounds, it is necessary to complete the projects being built and designed every day!

As part of our 2018 Annual Winter Conference scheduled for February 27 & 28, MBI has scheduled two full days of seminars covering many relevant topics for commercial construction, which will be delivered by some of the best and brightest minds in the industry.  >>>Read More

In December, the MBI Board of Directors approved their 2018 legislative agenda that included recommendations from the MBI Government Affairs Committee.  Throughout the summer and fall, our public affairs team has been working to identify priorities that we would focus on to improve the commercial construction industry.

There is always something interesting going on at the Iowa Statehouse during the legislative session and in an effort to enhance MBI's advocacy efforts and keep members informed, our public affairs team will host a series of webinars during the 2018 legislative session.  >>>Read More
