The opening of the 2018-19 school year shined with Lancer Pride and enthusiasm!
On Thursday, August 9, the annual Freshman Family Barbeque welcomed the Class of 2022 with an evening of food and festivities that included a
spirit assembly featuring the Lancettes, cheerleaders, LP Drumline and Lancer Nation.
During the staff Opening Day Institute on Monday, August 13, over 250 students lined the hallway from the cafeteria to the auditorium and welcomed teachers back with a spirit march. Opening remarks to staff resonated with the theme of The Lancer Effect and the positive ripple that can be felt among students, parents, staff, alumni and community members. Follow Your Student's Schedule at Curriculum Night
Meet Lake Park teachers, counselors and other support staff at the upcoming events.
Lake Park faculty and staff invite parents to attend the annual Curriculum Night at East Campus on Wednesday, August 29 and at West Campus on Wednesday, September 5. During the evening parents will have the opportunity to follow their student's schedule and learn more about each teacher's learning objectives and expectations. Counselors, the school nurse, and other support staff will be available to meet and answer any questions during your student's study hall or lunch period.
In addition to the use of classroom textbooks, which is included in student registration fees, novels for English classes must be acquired by students at an additional cost. For your convenience in purchasing the required titles for fall semester, Anderson's Book Fair will be held on-campus from Monday, August 27 through Friday, September 7. The book fair will also be available in the library during Curriculum Night. During those times, books can be purchased at the school library using cash, credit card, or with a check payable to Lake Park High School (with student ID# in the memo line.) To determine which titles to purchase and the prices of the books at the book fair, refer to the English class listed on your student's schedule, which is available in the Home Access Center (HAC).

Course Level Change Requests
Deadline for first semester level changes is Monday, October 1.
Lake Park strives to provide students with challenging academic curricula and instruction in preparation for postsecondary success. Students who excel in their current course level are encouraged to challenge themselves further by pursuing a level change up, while students who may be struggling should take advantage of the many academic interventions offered before requesting a level change down. Students are asked to discuss their rationale for a level change with their teacher, parents, curriculum leader, and counselor prior to completing the
online forms.
Equally as important as academics is the social-emotional well being of our Lancers. If you are concerned about your student's social-emotional well being, and think a level change may help, please reach out to your student's counselor as soon as possible.
With the new school year underway, students should find their schedule to be appropriately challenging. Students were asked to dedicate at least five days to their current courses before requesting a change. Following the blackout period that ended this week, students may submit first semester level changes to their counselor until the deadline of
Monday, October 1.

1:1 Chromebook Initiative
Insurance options available for Lancer families; survey seeks parent feedback.
The Lake Park High School 1:1 instructional technology initiative is now in its third year of implementation. During registration incoming freshmen in the Class of 2022 received a Chromebook, a laptop-like computing device, to support and enhance their educational experience. All students in grades 9, 10 and 11 have a device.
Families are encouraged to watch this Chromebook Safety Video to be fully aware of all the ways in which Chromebooks should be protected during daily use. In the event of the Chromebook's breakage or malfunction, optional insurance is available to help lower the cost of repairs. Please note the following points about Chromebook insurance:
As part of the district's continuous improvement efforts, Lake Park is interested in hearing again from parents/guardians of how the Chromebook program is working for your student. Please take this brief survey to provide feedback that will contribute to recommendations and modifications of the program.

Friday Night Lights
Celebrate Senior Night and Lancer Nation's neon theme tonight!
Lake Park looks forward to hosting tonight's football home opener versus DeKalb High School at West Campus. Celebrate Senior Night and join in the fun as Lancer Nation's official theme will be neon. Be counted among the first 500 students dressed in neon to receive a free glow stick necklace!
Please be advised of the following protocols regarding attendance as it relates to non-Lake Park students:
- Any non-high school age student attending contests at the high school must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Students arriving without an adult chaperone will not be admitted to the game.
- Backpacks and opened outside beverage containers are not allowed in the stadium, so please plan accordingly and bring what you need to be prepared for all weather.
- Admission of $3 is charged to non-high school age students over the age of five (5) years old.
- If you are not being driven home by your adult chaperone, please arrange for a ride to pick you up immediately following the contest in the circle drive in front of West Campus and not in the stadium parking lot. This helps to reduce traffic near the stadium.

Lake Park Homecoming Parade Returns
Lancers to celebrate community connections in downtown Roselle.
This year, for the quadrennial
Homecoming Parade, Lake Park is proud to partner with the Village of Roselle, the Downtown Roselle Business Merchants, Roselle Police and Roselle Fire to kick off Homecoming Week!
On
Saturday, September 22
, the Homecoming Parade will step off around the Trinity Community Center / American Legion Hall and march down Main Street before ending on Prospect Avenue.
School and community groups are invited to participate in the festivities. Visit the
Homecoming Parade web page to learn more information about participant guidelines and to complete an application by the deadline of
Friday, September 14.
The final parade route, in development and collaboration with the Village and Police, will be communicated in the coming weeks. Important details to note:

9:00 a.m. Parade will begin and take place in and around downtown Roselle.
Additionally on
September 22, Lancers will unite for the 4th annual Make a Difference Day, which will take place immediately following the parade! Student groups will have the opportunity to celebrate Homecoming Lancer-style, and then head out into the community for various service projects scheduled from
10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Watch for more details!

Calling All Lake Park Alumni
Lake Park alums to celebrate Homecoming and class reunions. 
The
Lake Park Educational Foundation will be hosting the Alumni End Zone at the homecoming game on
Friday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Join us to cheer on the 2018 Lancers against Glenbard North High School. Graduating classes from years ending in "8" or "3" (1968, 1973, 1978, 1983 and so on) will be recognized. All alumni, Lake Park staff, retirees and their families are welcome to join us in the alumni section. Reservations are not required, but you must purchase a ticket for the football game.

Insurance Options
Lake Park High School District 108 offers all families the option to purchase non-school related accident coverage as well as dental accident coverage. Any enrolled student is eligible for coverage plans that are offered by Special Markets Insurance Consultants, Inc. To research the available coverage plans - including costs, benefits, exclusions and any reductions or limitation -
view the student accident enrollment application. Parents or guardians of students are responsible for enrollment and premium payment.

IPM
Lake Park High School District 108 has adopted an Integrated Pest Management program that minimizes the use of pesticides in school buildings and on school grounds. The policy, in accordance with state laws, also includes a registry whereby residents can be notified in writing two days before any pesticides are used in the school buildings or on school grounds.
If you would like to receive written notification prior to the application of any pest control materials, download and complete a form with your contact information. The form must be returned to the main office at either campus or district office by September 21, 2018 to receive written notification.
