August 24th

Sunday, August 26
Worship at 10 am
Sanctuary

The greatest commandment is to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself, but what if we don't even know who they are? It is pretty hard to love people you don't even know, and sometimes that becomes our excuse to not even try. In Sunday's scripture, Jesus is offering a challenge to everyone who struggles with the desire to be a stakeholder in their community. Let's explore that challenge together!

Music Notes
We welcome guest organist Dr. Michael Peters this week while Jonathan Moyer is traveling on concert leave. Dr. Peters is a soloist in the Covenant Choir and teaches at Case Western Reserve University. Aaron Lange (tenor) is a section leader in the Covenant Choir and a second-year master's student at CIM, where he studies with Dr. Dean Southern. Aaron is also part of the voice faculty at the Notre Dame College in Euclid, OH. This is Aaron's second year singing at Covenant, where he has felt welcomed and part of the Covenant family. Kansas City native Emma Lou Diemer was an organist from the early age of 13. She is a leading American composer of orchestral, chamber, keyboard, choral, and vocal works. Her music pulses with vitality and joy. We hear two settings of well-known hymn tunes for the prelude and postlude today.

Children: Nursery for infants through Pre-K is available in the Creche . During worship, children will collect items for the food pantry and then go to Sunday school.

Mission Trip
This week, Church of the Covenant served as host for a visiting middle school youth group from Grosse Pointe Memorial Church in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. They were in town serving at local non-profits and charities, and along the way visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and museums around University Circle! It was a joy to partner with them and we wish them safe travels as they return to Michigan at the end of the week.

If you have any information regarding congregation members please email the communication manager, Aisha Newton. She would love to highlight them in the enewsletter or social media.
