The Glades Initiative and the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County are presenting a workshop on two topics: Fair Housing and Legal Aid's Low Income Taxpayer Clinic. An overview of fair housing laws for tenants and homebuyers will precede a presentation on services to low-income taxpayers who are involved in tax problems with the IRS. Presentations will be in English, and Spanish.

Early Voting Days in Palm Beach County EARLYVOTING

Early voting for the primary election begins in Palm Beach County Aug. 13, and the last day for early voting is Aug. 26. Early voting stations are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Belle Glade Library is the location of the early voting station in the Glades. Election Day (last day to vote) is August 28, 2018. You can only vote at the precinct listed on your voter registration site (see Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections website for more information).

Glades PATCH Meeting PATCH

The Glades PATCH (Planned Approach To Community Health) is a program designed to help the community evaluate, plan and implement health education and disease prevention and intervention programs. PATCH helps promote the health of the community to include social, emotional and physical well-being of its citizens. PATCH is a partnership of concerned citizens and organizations. This partnership provides a forum for identifying health problems affecting the community and mobilizing the community to plan, conduct and evaluate intervention services. The meeting is open to all who wish to join.

Alice in Wonderland Auditions with the Missoula Children's Theatre

Come and be a part of the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center's 25th annual production with the Missoula Children's Theatre in ALICE IN WONDERLAND, the very first title the theatre ever presented with Missoula Children's Theatre! Approximately 50 roles are available for local students. All students, grades K-5 - 12th grade, are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Most students rehearse approximately 4½ hours each day, Monday through Thursday. A performance is scheduled for local schools on Friday, September 28 at noon and two performances will be presented for the public on Saturday, September 29 at 11 am and 7 pm.

Grant Opportunity: Mentoring Mini-Grant Released

The Mentor Center is excited to announce the release of a Mentoring Support Opportunity. In looking to increase access to a post-secondary credential attainment, Achieve Palm Beach County is working with United Way's Mentor Center to increase both quality and capacity of mentoring programs within our county's underserved population of young men and boys of color, primarily. Through this effort we are able to offer this competitive application process to organizations looking to fund projects impacting high-school aged youth and their access to post-secondary credential attainment.

Mentor Training - Take Stock in Children PBC

From Take Stock in Children: "We need your support! Take Stock in Children needs to recruit 200 new mentors by the end of September and we need you! If you have already gone through our orientation, please let me know. If not, please consider making a difference and making a college scholarship possible for a student. Our students must have a mentor in order to receive their college scholarship."

Becoming a mentor is easy and minimal time commitment..
* Attend an orientation
* Meet with your student once a week
* For 20-30 minutes
* At least 2-3 times a month
* during the student's lunch period
