Nurturing Faith Ideas
Nurturing Faith Ideas are weekly suggestions and activities from the Presbytery's Nurture Committee to link worship and home and to nurture faith development in the family. They are intended for all ages and family types. Add one to your bulletin each week or put them in your monthly newsletter. They could also be sent via email or added to a Facebook page. Ideas for the entire year can be found  here.

Ephesians 6:10-20 encourages us to put on "the whole armor of God." We don't use armor much here today, but we might still think of what the items represent as tools God has given us to stand up for our faith. So, as you dress each morning, think of putting on truth, righteousness, faith, peace, salvation, God's word, and prayer as you put your clothes on. Share with a friend of family member how putting these things on helps you live as a child of God.

September 2
James 1:17-27 says we should be doers of the word and not just hearers. If we act, then we will be blessed. What are some ways you can be a doer this week? What are some ways you can live out your life as a Christian?

September 9
In James 2:1-10 (11-13) 14-17, we are told that we are not supposed to treat people differently. It doesn't matter if people have money and nice clothes or if they do not have much, they are the same and should be treated with compassion and respect. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves. What are ways you can "love your neighbor as yourself?"

"We change in order to preserve what we value."  In some ways, that quote probably applies to the church. It helps explain why we get new hymnbooks that feature more modern hymns as well as hymns from other countries. It helps explain why we use new translations of the Bible that take into account older manuscripts as well as our changing language.

Most importantly, it's an extremely effective way to preach and teach, as stories are what's easiest for most people to remember. Join  Tracy Radosevic, an internationally-acclaimed biblical storyteller, educator, and retreat facilitator, for this Expanding Your Ministry Toolbox course.

The GA Opening Worship offering, combined with online donations, raised more than $50,000 to support  two organizations working against mass incarceration by purchasing the freedom of people who languish in jail because they are too poor to afford the fines levied against them for minor offenses. Included in this donation was the $890 we donated in the offering from our May 17 Presbytery meeting.
