QCAMP: New Student Orientation
   

Please join us for QCAMP 2018, our Welcome Orientation for new Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual + (LGBTQIA+) first year and transfer students!
 
This is a great way to learn about UC San Diego's LGBT Resource Center, campus resources, and to meet other students like you. Two $500 Scholarships will be awarded at the event!

The HIV Neurobehavioral Research Program is recruiting for a focus group next week. They are looking for cisgender males between 18 and 30 (ish) years old who have sex with other men. Please call (619) 543-5000 to RSVP because they need to do a short screening questionnaire over the phone.
This is a compensated focus group that will provide pizza and beverages.

New Trans Man Group (Binary)

The San Diego LGBT Center has launched a new Trans Man (binary) group. The Michael Dillon Society meets monthly (in library) from 7pm-8:30pm on the 1 st Tuesday of each month! Food and beverages provided. Activities include playing board games, movie watching, topic discussions and more.

Who is Michael Dillon?
Laurence Michael Dillon (1915-1962) was a British physician who was widely known for his pioneering transition from female to male between 1939 and 1949. Dr. Dillon is the first recorded trans man to undergo a complete medical and legal transition: name and sex change on government documents, cross-sex hormone treatment, chest reconstruction, hysterectomy and phalloplasty.

The Center also has a non-binary group, trans coming out group, trans discussion group, trans female discussion group and an early transition FTM discussion group.

PAID Research Training for Students

Would you be interested in participating in a research training program that pays you $14.00, allows you to work flexible hours, gain experience, and provides you with the opportunity to join one of UCSD's many research labs?
 
Apply to the IMSD Basic Methodology Training Lab (BMTL). This is an amazing opportunity to:
 
  • Learn firsthand lab techniques and what it takes to become a scientist
  • Gain lab experience while doing biomedical research at the PhD level (as a FRESHMAN!)
  • Work with world renown faculty mentors
  • Build up your resume and curriculum vitae
  • Get started on a path towards a PhD (the earlier you get started on preparing for graduate school, the better)
  • Help getting into PhD programs across the country
 
After you complete the training, you will be given the opportunity to join the second Phase of the IMSD program and get paid to conduct research!!!!

Volunteer Opportunity:
AIDS Memorial Quilt Monitoring
August 2018; 
The LGBTQ+ Exhibit at the San Diego History Center

As part of the LGBTQ+ SD exhibit at the San Diego History Center a 12x12 section of the AIDS quilt is on display. The individual panels are significant to San Diego and remember Jess Jessop, Brad Truax, Gary Rees, Diversionary Theater, Monte Kobey, Philip Dimitri Galas, David Mandell Jr. and Tim Pour. As part of the arrangement with The Names Project to display these quilts, the section is required to have a person to stay by and be present while the section is on display during the time the History Center is open to the public.

Duties include monitoring the AIDS Memorial Quilt area to ensure that visitors do not touch the quilt and eat or drink in the gallery. Sign up HERE.

UC San Diego's TRIO Outreach Program has several job openings for UCSD graduate and undergraduate students to work with high school students via our Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math Science, and Talent Search programs.   

We are looking for motivated individuals who can help build the college-going dreams of young people in the local area community. Each year we serve over 900 students who are low-income, first-generation from thirteen (13)  diverse high schools in San Diego county.

  • Training:September 20th & 21st, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm @ UCSD Price Center
  • Pay: ranges from $14.37 - $15.37 /hour
Position Specifics:
 
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Math Tutors: Approx. 6 hrs/wk plus additional hours for Saturday events and recruiting.
  • College Advisor/Mentors: Approx. 12 hrs/wk plus additional hours for Saturday events and recruiting
