DISTANCE LEARNING: Monday, June 8 - Wednesday, June 10
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10th!!!
"Never look down on anybody unless you’re helping him up."
~~ Jesse Jackson

 Dear C.U.B.S.,

We are all processing a lot of tough emotions after events in our communities and across the United States this week. I have been working with our staff this week in navigating conversations with students as they arise and sharing resources. In case you missed it, Dr. Stepenosky sent an update to families on Monday regarding recent events (6/1/2020) as well as a few great resources.

I have listed some RESOURCES here that might be helpful in navigating potential conversations with your children and family. This list of resources may not be the perfect solution for you or your family. It is meant to be a starting place for some guidance or to give you some additional information to add to what you may have already found. My heart is with everyone during this difficult time. We miss seeing you and earnestly await the day we are all back at school and can see each other in person.

This past Friday evening, Dr. Stepenosky sent an email (6/5/2020) introducing options for parents for when school begins on August 19th and a distance-learning option. More information will be forthcoming as we finalize plans for the upcoming school year. I will continue to keep everyone informed as updates develop.

Since we cannot all be together, I have recorded my end of the year message for parents , students, and staff to let you know how much I care about all of you and how proud I am to be your Principal. We will all miss our fifth-grade students and their families, and wish them the best as they move on to middle school. Through the years, they brought such joy and happiness to our school. I hope you follow this link and watch. I am sad that I can’t say these words in person, but I look forward to the day when I can.

Our congratulations and farewell wishes for a beautiful new beginning are with Mrs. Katherine Mullholland.  She and her husband are beginning a new life adventure in another state at the end of this school year. For the past four years, she has been a 5th-grade teacher and has been a Student Council and Green Team advisor. Katie has made a difference in the lives of Chaparral students and staff and will be greatly missed!

We also want to thank our counselor, Ms. Janet Jamesson for all her hard work this year. We are truly grateful to have had her working with our staff, parents, and students this year. She has made a video as well to share her thoughts as we close the school year.  Click Here for Ms. Jamesson's Message .

Depending on the budget and the structure of school next year, there may be other changes to our staff as well. When appropriate, I will inform you of those changes as soon as I can. I have the extraordinary opportunity to work with an incredible group of people. I can’t say enough about the professionalism, commitment, and dedication of the Chaparral staff. I am blessed to lead a school with so much community spirit focused on student learning and growth.

It is important to thank our PFC Co-Presidents, Carrie Slatoff and Grace Fisher along with all of the Executive Board and Committee Chairs. We are grateful for all they have done. Each person has given so much time, energy, and resources to provide a partnership that continuously finds ways for our wishes and dreams to be realized for Chaparral.

Lastly, please look for an email on Monday from LVUSD with ideas to support reading and writing throughout the summer . The list provided in that email, along with ideas from your child’s classroom teacher, will give you websites and book recommendations to support your student in continuing their learning journey this summer.

I am planning to take a short break in June but will be working throughout the summer to be ready for this next school year. Since we are working on final plans for this next school year, I will be in touch, so you do the same. Please reach out with questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful, fun, and safe summer. Take extra care, and be well.

Kindest Regards,
Mrs. Brazell

Support Our City, Support Our School
#BUYCALABASAS
Did you know that the City of Calabasas gifts Chaparral PFC a School Grant every year? This year we were grateful to receive $32,000 from the City towards the educational programs we provide. As you can imagine, these funds are even more critical in periods of economic downturn.

Currently, we are at risk of losing this grant because sales tax revenue has drastically declined. That is why we are launching the #BUYCALABASAS campaign. As you shop for groceries or consider ordering in, please consider Calabasas stores vs. those in neighboring cities. Calabasas needs our business, and we need Calabasas' support!
New Student Enrollment
New Student Enrollment for residents for the 2020-2021 School Year is now open . The link for enrollment is on the Chaparral Elementary School Website or click here . Please help spread the word and let your neighbors and new families know about registration as well as ordering school supplies.
We are very excited to announce that over the summer we will be transitioning to a new communication tool and App called ParentSquare . It will consolidate platforms and add communication tools:

  • Send and receive school and class information including pictures and files via text, email, notifications
  • School Directory (populated from Aeries enrollment, replaces DirectorySpot)
  • Sign up to volunteer/donate (will take the place of SignUpGenius)
  • Process payments (replaces SchoolPay)
  • School calendar

You will be able to receive emails or texts for all school/grade level and classroom information. ParentSquare is already active for Chaparral! Download it today in the App store:
