Annual Meeting...Sept 15
Our Annual Guild Meeting and Flea Market will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the Concord Regional Technical Center, 170 Warren Street, Concord, NH. This is the same location as last year’s annual meeting. The Tech Center is at the back of the Concord High School, and there is plenty of on-street parking available.
We have a very full and exciting agenda so be sure to put the date on your calendar. Our events include:
Our Event Includes...
- Annual Flea Market – sell you un-needed tools and help the Guild by contributing 10% of your proceeds [on the honor system]
- 50/50 Raffle –Tickets on sale all morning – the winner gets 50% of the proceeds, and the Guild gets the remainder
- Sub-Group Presentations – learn what they have been doing, what you missed, and what’s coming up in the year ahead.
- Annual Business Meeting – agenda coming; check back later
- Featured Speaker – our very own Mike DiMaggio will give a presentation on how to restore antique hand tools. Mike has been doing this for years, and has developed considerable expertise. So learn in the afternoon presentation how to restore those old tools you just purchased at the morning Flea Market.
- Win a Mike DiMaggio restored tool – Mike will donate a restored tool for a raffle. All you have to do to enter is submit a woodworking question for the Journal that will be answered in a future edition.

Steve Costain is planning a selection of Small Meetings for the remainder of this year...current listings can be found in
August, October and November. Please check the

More are being added from time-to-time, so check the list often.
These meetings are generally held in small shops or other environments which require limiting the number of attendees.
They can fill up fast although cancellations do occur.
If you need to cancel, just sign in again, go to the event and click the big
Cancel button at the bottom of the event.

Small Meeting—Upholstery
I am scheduling another Small Meeting on Upholstery and will need a seat to use for the demonstration, just a slip seat. Please contact me with what you have.
This Small Meeting will be in early 2019.
Thanks, Steve Costain

Bylaw Change
During the business portion of the
Annual Meeting on Sept. 15, 2018, the membership will be asked to discuss and vote on a proposed change to our
Guild Bylaws.
The Steering Committee proposes to delete Section 3 of Article VI–General Meetings. This section reads...
- Section 3: Payment of demonstrator/speaker fees at general meetings shall not be permitted. However, reimbursement of travel expenses or other incidental expenses to demonstrators/speakers shall be permitted.
Removing this prohibition on demonstrator/speaker fees will give us the option of paying fees for services at our four General Meetings each year. The funding and budget for this would be controlled by an amendment to our
Grant Funding Policy.
Subgroups have been permitted to pay demonstrator/speaker fees/expenses since 2011 and funding since 2016. This will give our Program Coordinator more options in developing programs for General Meetings.
————————————
Section 2 of this same article would be
unaffected and remain in force. This section reads in part...
- Section 2: All general meetings other than Symposia, shall be open to all Guild members and non-members at no charge (i.e. no admission fee) regardless of venue...
It is felt this prohibition to charge admission fees while keeping meetings open to all is a long standing policy and a core tenet of the Guild and should remain unchanged.

Concord Monitor...
The Wonder is in the Wood
A good read about
David Lamb and his newest creation in the Concord Monitor.
"Wood shavings covered the floor. Old sawhorses held dusty panels of wood. There were Cool Whip containers on the floor, along with empty glass jars. The walls near the front door were not finished, beams exposed, and dirty paint brushes were everywhere.
But hold on. A piece of art, a masterpiece, sat in the middle of that dusty old studio, and that changed everything. Call it a bureau, and you might feel obligated to fold a shirt with perfect creases before placing it in one of four main draws."
