A Note from the Head of Finance & Business...
Dear Parents,

I recently attended an all day workshop called the School Safety Forum. It was intended to give schools and law enforcement tools and techniques for stopping school violence and ensuring best practices and procedures during emergency situations.

Although Crossroads is a very small school and many safety solutions presented at this forum are designed to accommodate much larger campuses and student populations, I did take away some good information. There were excellent speakers and breakout sessions that gave me ideas for some “scaled down” solutions for our campus. Things like magnetic locks on doors, keypad only entry on gates and other areas as well as how to properly relay pertinent information to police and medical personnel during an emergency situation.

Going forward, you may notice changes to campus doors and gates regarding access and functionality. We will keep everyone informed of the improvements we are making as they are completed and how they may directly, or indirectly, impact you and your child.

I believe that children can learn more and be successful if they attend a safe, orderly, supportive school environment. I feel like it is important for us to stay informed and aware of the latest products and procedures where campus safety is concerned and all of us here at Crossroads are committed to providing the safest and most caring campus possible for your child. Please don’t hesitate to call or email me with campus safety ideas, suggestions or concerns. I welcome your input!

The Positivity Project - Self-Control

This week's social skill was self-control. The elementary school students in Social Skills were practicing self-control by walking around the room and freezing when Ms. Ayesha said, "Freeze!".

As Seen on Campus

This month in Science class, students are learning about physical and chemical changes. As a visual (and a tasty) example of these science concepts, the students made caramel. Students witnessed the chemical changes and observed the physical changes that occurred as the caramel's temperature declined and hardened onto the apples.

Upcoming School Field Trip
We are asking parents to bring in various sized pumpkins to assist with some upcoming experiments in our classes. In Science, students will roll the pumpkins on different surfaces to enhance their understanding of friction, speed, and velocity. In English, the pumpkins will be used for a writing activity.

The pumpkins can either be dropped off during carpool or in the front office by  Monday, October 21st.
If you and/or your student would like to attend our first Nightrageous event of the 2019-2020 school year, please RSVP by October 21st to Ms. Julianne.
