Join us for the annual Georgia ForestWatch Fall Retreat and Membership Meeting at Vogel State Park on Saturday, October 6th, 2018! Meet our new Executive Director, Dr. Don Davis, and  say farewell to Mary Topa.  Come just for the day, or stay over Friday and Saturday nights.

Vogel State Park is one of Georgia's oldest parks with stunning mountain views of Blood and Slaughter Mountains. It will be a wonderful weekend of hikes, community building, informative presentations and discussions, and socializing with old friends and new.

Our program begins at 10:00 am Saturday with the following talks and discussions:
  • "Saving the Forest Commons: Lessons from the Past, Prospects for the Future" by Executive Director Don Davis
  • "Georgia's Mountain Treasures Values" by Forest Ecologist Jess Riddle, followed by a "Next Steps" Q&A discussion with national forest experts, attorneys Patrick Hunter and Sam Evans from the Southern Environmental Law Center, and Conservation Specialist Jill Gottesman from the Wilderness Society
  • Updates on national legislation that will impact our Southern Appalachian forests
After our morning program, there will be a one-pot cook-off lunch, and hiking opportunities in the afternoon (Botany Stroll with Linda Chafin, Salamander Hike with Lindley McKay, Invasive Species Pull with Jess Riddle). Our annual membership meeting takes place at 5:00 pm, followed by raffle drawings and a traditional BBQ dinner.
