Introducing....
Our new website!

The Allegheny County Parks Foundation won't let a pandemic prevent us from unveiling a new look! In fact, it's the best time to introduce it considering how visitation to your nine Allegheny County Parks has soared during the stay-at-home period of COVID-19. We hope you visit our site often and use this resource to learn more about our projects, details about events that help us raise funds and new ways to enjoy everything all your nine parks offer.

More than ever, the fresh air and open spaces in your Allegheny County Parks show how vital they are to us all. With nine parks to visit throughout our region, lots of trails to absorb the beauty of nature and endless opportunities for recreation, they have much to offer everyone.
We know they matter to many of you because of your generosity to the Allegheny County Parks Foundation in honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day last month.
This funding allows the Parks Foundation to continue working to improve, conserve and restore your parks even during these uncertain times. We're finalizing plans to plant trees, renovate the Cascades at Stone Manse in South Park and remove acid mine drainage from Pinkertons Run in Settlers Cabin Park, among other projects. Because of your support, these projects and many others will continue.
THANK YOU!

#GivingTuesdayNow
is a global day created in response to COVID-19 and the urgent need around the world to connect, relate and give back. We in Allegheny County are fortunate to have nine county parks with over 12,000 acres and 180 miles of trails to explore.
Your parks provide you the space to roam, breath in the fresh air, clear your head and feel invigorated.
We need our parks, now more than ever before. That is why we hope you will consider making a donation to the Allegheny County Parks Foundation today.
Later this month, the Parks Foundation was planning to host one of its main fundraising events, Pour at the Park in South Park on May 30. Due to COVID-19, we have had to cancel this event and refund tickets, forfeiting the important revenue we need to raise to support our county parks. If you were planning to attend this event, or have attended Pour at the Park in the past, we hope you’ll consider making a 100% tax-deductible donation to the Allegheny County Parks Foundation, in lieu of your ticket purchase, to help support your county parks.
Supporting the Allegheny County Parks Foundation is a positive thing you can do in the face of a lot uncertainty.
We thank you for your kindness and generosity.

There's lots to discover in your nine Allegheny County Parks and ways to add fitness to your day. But before heading out, here's some "safe parking" tips from Allegheny County:
Engaging in outdoor activity, such as walking, hiking, biking or running, is permitted under Governor Wolf’s Stay at Home order and outdoor areas and restrooms in all nine county parks are open. However, it is strongly encouraged park users observe these guidelines:
- Stay at home if you are sick or have COVID-19 symptoms
- Practice physical distancing by staying at least six feet apart
- When passing on trails, maintain distance as much as possible
- Cover coughs or sneezes with a sleeve or elbow
- Do not shake hands
- Do not touch your face
- Wash or sanitize your hands frequently
If park-goers choose to use restrooms, playground equipment, exercise equipment, benches or other outdoor items with touch surfaces, proper hand washing and/or use of hand sanitizer is strongly encouraged before and afterward.
Be sure to look for signs posted throughout the parks with warnings and suggestions for safe use!

How do you give a facelift to a 40-year-old sculpture? You leave it to the experts!
McKay Lodge Conservation Laboratory of Oberlin, Ohio has been conserving large scale public art since 1989. Last year, six sculptures from
Hartwood Acres Park
were carefully rigged and transported there for conservation. Their work was already underway when COVID-19 forced them to stop.
But before that happened they were able to make some progress. Will Durbin, conservation assistant is pictured pressure-washing
Rings Series #5
by Fletcher Benton. They were surprised to find deserted bird nests inside the sculpture.
After cleaning, technicians will perform a micro-abrasion process on the surface to remove rust and scale. Then they make any necessary structural repairs and replace corroded elements. Finally, they apply the paint. It’s a three-step process: base primer, epoxy primer and the top, color coat.
The lab is permitted to reopen Monday, May 4, at which time they will re-establish the timetable for completing the project and moving the sculptures back to the new
Sculpture Garden at Hartwood Acres.
