Register Soon for TMS Annual Meeting!
October 3-6, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio

The Masonry Society's Annual Meeting is rapidly approaching, and attendees are reminded to register soon as the early registration discounts end on September 11th, and the hotel is filling up quickly. TMS is preparing for productive and enjoyable meetings that will be held October 3-6 in "born-again" Cleveland, Ohio.

For these meetings, TMS will be trying a condensed meeting schedule, so attendees will want to click here to view the schedule before making travel plans. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Seves Glass Block, TMS's Member/Guest Reception will be held at the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Informative and timely educational sessions are being planned, and during TMS's Awards Luncheon, Dr. Richard Klingner will be recognized as TMS's newest Honorary Member, Dr. William Mark McGinley will be made a Fellow of the Society, and other awards and recognitions will be given. Click here for more information on the meetings.

As a reminder, you can order TMS Publications for pick-up at the Annual Meeting to avoid shipping expenses. Use the coupon on the Annual Meeting Registration Form.
State of the Society Report - Log-In 9/25/18, 1 pm ET
For the past few years, the Society has held a Town Hall Meeting during its business meetings to inform attendees on how the Society is doing, to discuss challenges, and to share opportunities. To consolidate our October meetings in Cleveland, we are trying a virtual Town Hall Meeting, or "State of the Society" Report on September 25, 2018 at 1 pm ET. TMS leaders will provide a quick financial report, discuss known action items for the Annual Meeting, and will review major accomplishments of the Society, while letting attendees know about opportunities in the next few months. Unfortunately, the web based platform used for this "webinar" is limited to 90 attendees, plus speakers. As such, if you would like to join us, please register soon at this link (there is no cost to participate). The session will be recorded and posted to TMS's website for those unable to participate.

Fall/Winter Webinars - Registration Open
Based on the success of the 2017/2018 TMS "2nd Thursday of the Month" Webinar Series, TMS is preparing for Fall and Winter webinars as follows:
All webinars will begin at 1 pm ET and will provide 1 hour of continuing education and will be registered for AIA Learning Units. Click the links above for additional information on each webinar or to register

Public Comments on TMS 302 Accepted until September 24, 2018
TMS' Design Practices Committee has proposed revisions to the Standard Method for Determining Sound Transmission Ratings for Masonry Assemblies (TMS 302) from the previous version published in 2012.

Proposed revisions are largely administrative in nature and consist of:
  • General updates to referenced standards;
  • Clean-up and clarifications based on user input and Committee suggestions; and
  • Reorganization for flow and clarity
As part of the review and approval process, TMS 302 is provided for public review and comment.
The public comment period is open from August 9, 2018 and until September 24, 2018 at midnight Mountain Time.

The TMS Design Practices Committee is required to consider all comments received by the above deadline. The draft provisions of TMS 302 are to be considered as a mandatory-language document, whereas the corresponding commentary discussions are to be considered as a non-mandatory-language document.

200+ Abstracts Received for 13NAMC!

The organizers for the  13th North American Masonry Conference are pleased to report that more than 230 abstracts (the most ever for an NAMC) have been received for the conference! Each abstract is being reviewed over the next few weeks. Authors will be informed later this month if a paper related to their abstracts is invited for consideration.

The submittal of so many abstracts provides a strong foundation for what looks like the largest NAMC to date.

As the organizers continue to plan for the Conference, sponsorships are sought to support the NAMC. If you are interested in sponsoring this important conference, or may want to present during the new Innovative Technology sessions, please contact the conference organizers.

Therefore, The Masonry Society is accepting proposals from interested universities/professors wishing to host the conference. Proposals must be submitted to TMS no later than May 1, 2019. Notice on Unsubscribing & Forwarding Messages
Important information regarding TMS emails & Constant Contact.

To forward TMS emails, E-Newsletter, and Announcements that are sent via Constant Contact, use the Forward button at the bottom of the newsletters to ensure that if one of your contacts hits the "Unsubscribe" button at the bottom, that they don't unsubscribe you. The problem with the Forward button though is that it only allows you to Forward to a limited number of email addresses (7). For longer lists, you may have to do this several times. Alternatively, you could Forward the email with a personal note at the top, explaining that if they do not wish to receive the TMS forwarded messages from you, that they contact you directly to be removed from your particular email list.

Please note: Your email address is from a list solely owned and maintained by The Masonry Society (TMS) for our exclusive email purposes. TMS does NOT share our email lists. If you are a TMS Member, sit on a TMS committee, you should not "unsubscribe" as your email is essential to your membership and is used for committee balloting. Likewise, if you have requested to be on one of our mailing lists, you should also not click unsubscribe because by doing so, you will be removed from the distribution list. If you choose to use the Unsubscribe button on this page, you will not receive future TMS New Briefs, TMS Sustainability E-News, committee news, and notices of upcoming seminars, activities, and opportunities.
