Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day -  Get rid of your household hazardous waste the safe way for free ! A household hazardous waste collection day will be held on Saturday, August 11 from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Westland Shopping Center, 35000 Warren Rd. The event is limited to residents of Wayne County. To see a list of acceptable items, click here.

Norwayne Rummage Sale - The Norwayne Community Citizens Council is having a rummage sale, with all proceeds going towards community events. There will also be family events including crafts in the library, school supplies, a bake sale, community resource information, snacks, and a game of kick ball! The event will be on Saturday, August 11 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey. Click here for more information.  

Family Friendly Concert - Paulina Jayne will be performing a free and family friendly concert on Saturday, August 11. The event will also include a raffle, face painting, a bounce house, and other family fun! The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the concert starting at 4:00 p.m. and will be held at the Westland Shopping Center parking lot, located at 35000 Warren Rd. Click here to view the flyer.

Youth Assistance Program Mentor Training - Help make a difference in the lives of young people in your community and volunteer to become a mentor. Mentors are trained and matched with youth program participants and meet with them for two hours per week. Training dates are Monday, August 13 and Thursday, August 16 and will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd. Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

Friends of the Library 
  • The Friends of the Library will meet on Tuesday, August 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City PKWY.
Zoning Board of Appeals 
  • The Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on Wednesday, August 15 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd. 
Commodities Distribution - Commodities distribution for the month of August will be on Thursday, August 16 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey. For questions, call the commodities hot line number at 734-595-0366. 

All American Farmers & Artisans Market - The Westland Farmer's Market will be open on Thursday, August 16 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion located at 1901 N Carlson.  The Market will be open every Thursday through October. Please follow the Westland Farmer's Market on Facebook to keep up-to-date on happenings, vendors and more!

Summer Reading Program - Join the Jefferson Barnes Reading Room in their summer reading program! The program is made for kids 5 - 15 years old and they can earn prizes just for reading. Kids can join at any time during the summer at the Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center Reading Room, located at 32150 Dorsey Street.

Meet Up and Eat Up -  Meet Up and Eat Up was created to ensure that children in lower-income areas could continue to receive nutritious meals during long school vacations, when they do not have access to the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Programs. Meet Up and Eat Up will be held at the Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey Street,  Monday - Thurday from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. from now until August 16.


August Golf Special - Visit the Westland Municipal Golf Course this month and take advantage of the August golf special! The offer includes 9 holes of golf and a cart for only $15.00. This special runs until the end of the month at the Westland Municipal Golf Course, located at 500 South Merriman.
