Rabbi's Message
Jerry Cutler

Since September of 2015, the beginning of the so-called "stabbing intifada," Palestinian terrorists have murdered more than 50 innocent people and wounded hundreds more. Jun 30, 2016 - Hallel Yaffa Ariel, a 13 year old U.S. citizen of Kiriat Arba, was murdered in her bed when a 17-year-old Palestinian terrorist infiltrated her home and stabbed her to death.

Hallel had attended a dance recital in Jerusalem the previous evening and had returned home late, which was why she was still in bed when the attacker infiltrated her house. She was in the 8th grade and attended the middle school in Kiryat Arba, and is survived by her parents and two younger sisters-Shira, 10, and Kanna, Hallel was laid to rest in the Hebron cemetery on Thursday afternoon, June 30 2016.

The sad fact is Palestinian Authority makes generous lifetime payments to every Palestinian imprisoned for killing Israelis. And if the terrorist dies during his attack, his family receives these payments.

The United States provides the PA with approximately $300 million in aid each year. The PA makes approximately $300 million in payments to terrorists and their families every year.

Sen. Lindsey Graham re-introduced a critical piece of legislation -- The Taylor Force Act. This bill requires that we cut all U.S. aid to the PA until it stops funding terrorism.

This bill is named after Taylor Force, a West Point graduate who survived tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan only to be murdered in Israel by a Palestinian terrorist.

Dear CAT people....for close to 40 years our congregation has been stalwart supporters of Israel - the state and its inhabitants. We have reveled in its miraculous successes in the field of medicine to their spectacular inventions and manufacturing of the most modern defense mechanisms.

But now, our tax money is being used to stab to death innocent men, women and children in the Palestine Authorities latest and heinous attempt to kill Israelis and its supporters.

In essence, we, the Jews of America, are contributing to the deaths of innocents abroad in the Holy Land.

Thus far the outcry from our religious institutions and politicians is almost non-existent. Over the years, our congregation has quietly raised money and given gifts to the hungry, the abused and our brave American soldiers and veterans.

Now we must alert those around us and do everything we can to raise our collective voices and tell the government to STOP sending aid to the PA who rewards these murderers as they kill our brothers and sisters so that their families can get rich.

We cannot do it alone. We desperately need your support so that we can raise our voices in unison and put an end to this maddening and corrupt exercise manifesting itself as "Murder for Money."

Join us, pray with us, support us and Senator Graham so that together we can make an impact and save the lives of our friends and family who live in Israel. To you and yours a happy, healthy, joyous 5778.

Real Estate Tidbit from Lady Jeff Cutler

WHY TAKING THE HIGHEST OFFER ISN'T ALWAYS PRUDENT

Sales and prices are moving so quickly that appraisals are not keeping up. If the appraisal doesn't match the contract price, the buyer doesn't get the mortgage, and the deal dies.

The national median price of a home sold in June hit $263,800, a record, according to the National Association of Realtors. In addition, the average number of days a listing took to go under contract fell to just 28, down from 34 a year ago.

"Anytime prices move up fast, the actual appraisal process, because they're looking back in history, not forward into the future, they are lagging behind," said Lawrence Yun, chief economist at the Realtors group. "From the buyer's perspective, it's a tough situation where they want to rely on the value of the home, on the appraisal, yet they know that if they decide to back away there are other buyers waiting to pounce."
Lenders are now far more careful with appraisals than they were during the last housing boom. In turn, appraisers are being very cautious with the current price run-up.

That history gives today's cash buyers, many of whom are investors flipping homes for a quick profit, a major advantage over mortgage-dependent buyers. Once again, they're pushing prices higher artificially, but this time they are doing it without the banks.

Review from the Pew
by Rabbi Jerry Cutler

THE LAST FACE

Directed by enigmatic Sean Penn, "The Last Face" an action-packed feature starring Charlize Theron and Javier Bardem as relief aid doctors was roundly criticized at the Cannes Film Festival and I don't anticipate it getting a favorable reception here in the States. The film is a bloody bore that suffers from a poor script, cutsie and erratic direction and far too much savage killing and gut spilling. And, the love-affair between Theron and Bardem doesn't spark much interest. The chaotic story of the Liberian Civil War is impeded by hard to follow flashbacks further complicating the uneven script.

One of my favorite actors, Jean Reno, is totally wasted with what amounts to be an elongated walk on. However, if you haven't had your fill of 'action' flicks, "The Last Face" might quench your yearning - until you get home.

  MENASHE

A film entirely in Yiddish (with English subtitles) about the Chassidic Jews of Borough Park, Brooklyn starring a true Pious Jew and members of the community? "You gotta be kidding?" you say.  "Well, I'm not."

Put together by director Joshua Z. Weinstein, producer Alex Lipschultz who co/wrote the script with Weinstein and Musa Syeed and starring Menashe Lustig as - guess who.

"Menashe" is a simple story of a hardworking store clerk whose wife has passed away. The stern and no nonsense rabbi decrees that his young son, Rieven , be adopted by his married strict brother-in-law as children must grow up in a home where a mother is present.

As the memorial for Menashe's wife is coming up, the rabbi relents and tells Menashe that Rieven can stay until the unveiling of the stone and then brought to his brother-in-law's home.
Using hidden cameras for fear of someone detecting one and shutting down production, all concerned are dedicated to their appointed roles with a mission in mind - bringing in an audience of people who have no idea of their culture and life-style. Perhaps, just perhaps they, Jew and non-Jew, will then better understand the mystiques and observances of the Chassidic Jew.

Menashe Lustig and Ruben Niborski as his son, are wonderful together. The other 'actors' are very believable which is a credit to the director who has placed his faith and considerable talent in this off-beat production.

"Menashe" is by no means great but audiences will get a very true depiction of these people who do not possess televisions and never go to the movies. They are a very proud people who live for the glory of God by living a humble life through the study of Torah and the joy of prayer.
