WELCOME BACK KNIGHTS!

As you will see below, our teachers and staff have been busy preparing for the return of our Knights on Monday morning. The campus looks great and we are all very excited about our transition into a digital school for 2018-2019. I hope all of our Knights will remember to have their laptops charged up and ready to go each morning.

Please note that we will be hosting our first School Advisory Council meeting of the year this coming Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. I encourage all members of our school community to consider participating as we will be sharing some very useful information for the new school year.

The entire administrative team is looking forward to seeing everyone Monday morning for a successful on-time start to 2018-2019. This promises to be a wonderful, very productive school year!

In Knights Honor,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Knight Celebration !

It is official - LNMS has an "A" grade for the ninth year in a row! Based on Florida Department of Education calculations, LNMS "A" grade was the result of 660 total cumulative points earned.

Congratulations to our staff, teachers and students for their focus on learning. A grateful thank you goes to our community and parents for your support this past school year.

Above and below: Our staff celebrated their success with a big welcome back to the Kingdom this past week . . . a hearty feast for our noble Knights!

Vital Signs
One-mil property tax renewal vote on Tuesday, August 28th

Making sense of the chart: The chart illustrates actual average annual per student funding dating back to 2007 and then projected forward to 2022, adjusted for the cost of inflation (the black line running along the top equals average total student funding after you factor in rising costs due to inflation which are a reality).

You can see where the one-mill property tax kicked in during 2011 and then ran through this past school year (brown bars). Now it is time to vote again. Without an extension of the one-mill, OCPS will have -$1,437 less in per-student funding than what 2007 funding would provide today as there will be fewer dollars to work with combined with rising costs due to inflation.

The bottom line? Without the extension of the one-mill, OCPS anticipates a total 2019 budget reduction of $143 million which will impact many hundreds of teachers, academic programs, arts and athletics.

"You decide. Your vote counts!"

Digital Distribution

The digital world is one where many of our students currently function, and this trend will only increase. We have embraced and capitalized on the learning resources available to us to engage students. We have distributed digital devices to over 1,300 students this past week to better prepare students for their future endeavors in academica, employment and life.

Please help students start the new school year with the following:
1. Charge computer before coming to school
2. Leave  charger at home
3. Bring computer to school every day
4. Find class schedule in ProgressBook
5. Put away cell phones at 9:25 a.m. every morning in backpack or purse
6. Purchase computer sleeve (below)

7. Bring school supplies
8. Review all materials from the first day with your child that evening

Monday's Motivational Moment

Thank you,
LNMS teachers

Thank you for coming in this past week and doing a terrific job preparing for the return of our Knights on Monday morning.

Thank you for the long, long hours you will dedicate to your students this year.

Thank you for doing so much often with so little.

Thank you for helping our Knights discover passion for things they never even knew they liked.

Thank you for making sure your classrooms are safe and welcoming places for students.

And during this first week of school remember this. All adults are where they are today because of teachers like you.

With deep appreciation,

Principal Jackson
