Session Highlights

Here are a few highlights from the June meeting of the Session.
  • Elected Pat Clements to serve on the Nominating Committee and John Chesshir to serve as a Trustee.
  • Agreed to allow Joyce Wilcox to teach individual piano students, but no other outside group will be allowed to use the building at this time.
  • Laura Neely had submitted plans for her maternity leave, which were approved by the Staff Oversight Committee. Lucia came earlier than expected, but Laura is on her planned leave for the next three months. The Session recognizes that this may need to be revisited given Lucia's early arrival.
  • Approved Mission Outreach plan to provide HEB gift cards in lieu of 4th of July food baskets. Donations will be sought from the congregation.
  • Approved Mission Outreach plan to collect financial donations for "Back to School" since the student needs are unknown at this time.
  • Educational Ministries will hold Rally Day the Sunday following Labor Day, even though the local schools are starting in mid-August.

4th of July Party Food for The Purple Door

fourth-july-corn.jpg
For many years, Parkway has provide a basket of party food suitable for a 4th of July celebration to the residents of the Women's Shelter. This year, the project is the same but the means will be different. Rather than distributing food bags to be filled, you may make a financial contribution to "July 4th Food Baskets." The funds collected will be used to buy HEB gift cards for the women who are clients of The Purple Door (Women's Shelter).

Please act quickly. Because we haven't been gathered at the church for worship this project is getting a late start, but your generosity will help these women enjoy a festive 4th of July.

Planning for In-Person Worship
The Session has voted to begin in-person worship on Sunday, June 21. The Session also approved guidelines to help ensure safe social distancing. A full description of the plan has been sent to you separately, but here are the essential highlights:
  • Two entries into the building will be open, the main entrance on Brawner Parkway and the entry through the Music Building from the alley.
  • Masks will be required for entry but may be removed once you are seated in the sanctuary. Masks can be provided if you forget yours.
  • Ushers will regulate the number of people entering from the narthex and the alley to ensure appropriate social distancing.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at both entrances.
  • The Order of Worship will be sent by email to every member and you are encouraged to print the Order of Worship at home and bring it with you. A limited number of copies will be available at the church.
  • Seating will be in every other row and blue tape designates each seat. Please leave three seats between your family and the next family unit.
  • Offering baskets will be placed next to the entrance/exit and any donations may be dropped into the basket on arrival or leaving. Offering plates will not be passed.
  • Iris Fielden will serve as the Cantor for the congregation. There will be no congregational singing.
  • There will be no desks for sign-ups in the narthex.
  • The Nursery will not be open.
  • At the end of the service, ushers/ministers will direct dismissal to avoid over-crowding the narthex.
  • Please do not assemble in the narthex, but stay around for conversations out on the lawn.
