Dear Friends,

God shows up in the most unexpected places. Recently, God visited me in my refrigerator!

As many of you know, my husband fell and broke his hip a few weeks ago with the usual disruption and anxiety such events produce in life. He is recovering well, but it has to be said that our refrigerator became a reflection of the situation.

Last Friday, realizing we could either choose to die of food poisoning or I could clean it out, I decided on the latter. Refrigerator cleaning is one of my most hated chores. However, it had to be done and I set to work with a will. An hour or so later I stood back to admire my handiwork and was blessed with the amazing sight of a sparkling interior with all the food freshly organized on gleaming shelves. I was surprised by a deep and unexpected sense of peace and pleasure.

God does indeed show up when least expected and I was grateful for the gentle reminder that, as Julian of Norwich wrote, “All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”

Preparing for the coming of the Prince of Peace means keeping watch for such moments. As Advent unfolds pay attention to what is happening around you.

You can never be sure when you will notice God has show up, but you can be certain God is waiting for you.

Be ready for surprise.

Blessings,

Sue
