Our fabulous all-ages event honoring local queer art, artists, and vendors is quickly approaching, but we still have space left for additional artists and vendors!
Artists:
you can
submit art to our event free of charge, and will be able to keep ALL the profits of your art, if you choose to sell it. All art must be ready to hang or be displayed. Find the full call details for artists here. Deadline for submissions is 5:00 PM on Monday, October 21st, 2019.
Vendors: Vendors will be able to have space to sell or promote their goods, FREE of charge. Items for sale can include (but are not limited to): handmade goods, clothing, jewelry, etc. Apply to be a vendor here. Deadline for vendor applications is 5:00 PM on Friday, October 25th, 2019.

Join us for a fabulous night of fashion to celebrate the re-opening of the Queer Closet in its new location at the Women's & Gender Resource Center. The evening's event will feature a fashion show dedicated to honoring all bodies and genders through diverse and accessible displays of fashion! In addition to the show, folx will get a chance to peruse and take home Queer Closet fashion finds! Interested in donating? The Queer Closet is specifically seeking additional clothing items, and unused makeup and personal hygiene products!

Celebrate LGBTQ+ community & literacy at the Salas de Libros/Literacy Café launch for Fall 2019!

Salas de Libros/Literacy Cafés is an innovative, multi-generational community literacy project for children, teens, and adults. For Fall 2019, Salas will focus on readings by and about LGBTQ+ communities! Beginning with this launch event, each of the Salas will be an opportunity for youth and young adults who identify as queer, trans, non-binary and/or LGBTQ+ and family members and friends to build community around young adult fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels that reflect our diverse lives and experiences. Salas attendees can browse and share LGBTQ+ books, respond and talk about poems and short stories, play literary games, and immerse ourselves in good books and great conversations. Additional Salas de Libros dates include: Oct. 24th, Nov. 7th & 14th, Dec. 5th & 12th.

Join us for our next ACE Workshop: Queer Comedy with Em Bowen!

This workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to explore the history of comedy, it's successes and failures as a form of expression, as well as its future through learning how to put together their own stand-up bit. Participants will take part in writing, kinesthetic, and verbal exercises all with the intention of building the tools necessary to confidently begin to queer the Tucson comedy scene.

Adapted from the novel by Helena Maria Viramontes by award-winning playwright Virginia Grise, Their Dogs Came with Them ascribes new meanings to gang life dramas, gender queer identities, and Chicana/o/x coming of age barrio tales. A play about what happens to a community, and the people that live there, when four intersecting freeways are built right through the heart of their neighborhood - Their Dogs Came with Them weaves in and out of memory and history, as the lives of four youth intersect and intertwine, unearthing stories about the effects and aftereffects of the Vietnam War, homelessness, mental illness, state violence, policing, and neighborhood enclosures. Advanced reservations recommended, due to limited seating. Please arrive on time, as there will be no late seating.

Writers Helena Maria Viramontes and Virginia Grise, musician Martha Gonzalez, and actors Leilani Clark and Manny Rivera will discuss displacement, dreaming and freedom in the staging of Their Dogs Came with Them.

After their presentation, Jacob will take questions from the audience. A book sale and signing will follow.

Miss Nature and collaborators invite you to check out the 6th annual Drags for a Cure! All door sales will benefit the American Cancer Society of Tucson as will all proceeds raised during the event. This year, Drags for a Cure hopes to reach a goal amount of $5,000! In addition, everyone is encouraged to bring their dollar bills to tip performers. This is an all-ages show!!!! Previous shows have sold out and we are only limited to 125 seats--so you will want to get yours while you can. ASL interpretation will be provided.

Items needed (but not limited to): clothing, fabric, hot glue guns, rhinestones, craft items, shoes, wigs, unused makeup, accessories, etc.
For our upcoming "Drag as Therapy" workshop (Oct. 26th), we are currently seeking donations for items that will aid workshoppers as they create their original looks through garment construction, makeup design, and much more! Participate in Facilitated Campus Conversations to create change!

The purpose of the campus conversations is to create space for discussion about creating organizational change for inclusion at the University of Arizona. These conversations will be facilitated by AVP Teresa Graham Brett and her staff in Initiatives for Organizational Inclusion (IOI: formerly ODIEX), in the Division of Equity, Inclusion, & Title IX.
Information from these conversations will be used to support the Senior Leadership Team in making organizational changes that support greater inclusivity by creating greater accountability for and incentivizing of diversity and equity at all levels of the institution. No names or identifying information will be provided to the Senior Leaderships Team, or to anyone outside of the IOI staff facilitating the conversations, and all data will be reported in the aggregate. Please note that this conversation is one of three planned. Other dates include October 25th & November 5th.
