New STEAM - (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) Area opens Semester 2 at OHS
The Oregon High School STEAM center is set to open to its full capacity starting 2nd semester of the 2017 - 2018 school year.  The vision of this space is an area where students can go to make, collaborate, experiment, develop and prototype ideas and projects within a wide variety of classes and content areas.  The area is divided into Collaborative Spaces, an Engineering Prototype area and a Manufacturing Prototype area.  Teachers will have the option to bring their classes to the space for a period of time, say a week or 3 days, to allow students access the the technology and machinery necessary to generate a physical, or virtual representation of their solution to a given problem.
Examples of the types of equipment that will be housed in the STEAM center include: Laser Engraving / Cutting, Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Mills, 3D Printers, Vinyl Cutting, Metal Fabrication, Wood Fabrication, Plastic Injection Molding, Vacuum Forming, Virtual Reality Software.

New Art Gallery Opens at OHS

The OHS Art Gallery officially opened it's doors Thursday Night, November 30th, at the
buildings open house! The show displays the work of OSD Staff, Students, and Alumni and will be up through the month of December. The space is a welcome addition to the school districts goal of "Good and Getting Better". Not only will it showcase the many talents of our students and community, but it will demonstrate the importance of art to the educational process as it develops critical thinking and advance problem solving skills. Stop in and check out the work and keep watching for future up-dates and shows!

OASIS - Oregon Alternative School
The mission of OASIS is to ensure all students earn a diploma from OHS, and are fundamentally prepared for life beyond high school, by providing an equitable alternative learning experience responsive to the whole person. Flexibility and individual interest and goals (including post-secondary plans) are integral to our philosophy of teaching and learning. This focus informs how students choose what to learn, how to learn it, how to demonstrate learning proficiency, and earn credit. We believe learning should be student-driven, teacher supported and responsive to a student's life experience.  Issues that may be viewed as "peripheral" in a regular school environment are integral to how learning is honored at OASIS. For example, students may earn elective credit for their work experience outside of school. There are a variety of options offered to help students achieve success, and we are always open to the input of students and families.  Click here to learn more!

Academic and Career Planning

Ask your student about using the online Career Cruising program. It is used to build self-awareness, explore options, and create a plan for the next steps to achieve career, school, and life goals. For example, in Health Class, students use Career Cruising to explore Career Clusters, Career Pathways, and set goals. Recently, during the Advisory period, all students used the program to enter their profile information - which can then generate a resume. Career Cruising is just another component of Academic and Career Planning intended to equip students and their families with the tools necessary to make more informed choices about postsecondary education and training as it leads to careers.
