Dear 8th Grade Washburne
Students & Families,

I apologize in advance for the length of this message. I wanted to include "all things graduation" and end-of-year in one document for ease of reference. I am excited to share all that we have in place to celebrate our 8th graders. Thank you to all of you for your patience and flexibility throughout this process.
  • The Last Day of School for 8th Graders is Wednesday, June 3rd
  • Yard Signs: This Friday, May 29th, Washburne 2020 yard signs will be delivered to the home of each 8th grader.
  • Class of 2020 Banner: Be on the lookout for a large celebratory banner hanging in front of Washburne. We are hoping to have this installed by June 1st.
  • Instagram:  Washburne 2020 Instagram!  Once you have received your yard sign, we invite you to take a photo of your child with their Washburne 2020 sign.  Please follow #washburne2020 and tag your child's photo to be featured.
Graduation Day Events

Goodie Bags: (Thursday AM)
  • On Graduation Day, next Thursday, June 4th, Graduation Committee volunteers (all wearing masks and gloves) will be delivering congratulatory goodie bags to all of the 8th graders.
  • Delivery will take place in the morning and the bags will be left at the front door.  Look for some keepsakes as well as some items that can be used to celebrate the day.
Washburne's Reverse Car Parade
(Thursday 2-3pm)

Teachers and staff will be spread out around the campus on our "reverse" parade route. We felt this would be a wonderful way to see and say "Good-bye!" to one another before the year's end. The parade will take place on  Thursday, June 4th from 2:00-3:00p.m.

Route:
Our reverse parade will begin on Oak Street heading westbound toward Hibbard Road.  Before reaching Hibbard, cars will turn right into the Washburne parking lot. Cars will continue through the parking lot and turn right onto Elm Street. Cars will head east on Elm until the end of the parade. Washburne Staff will be stationed along the route On Oak, Elm and in the Parking lot. (Please see the map below for a visual reference of the route)
Safety:
For the safety of our staff and our families, we have some guidelines listed below.
  • Please stay in the car the entire time
  • Do not pass any items to teachers or staff members, including notes, cards, signs, etc.
  • We ask that you drive slowly and do not stop the car line to talk.
  • You and your child can call and wave out the car window(s), as we will be waving and calling out to all of you!
Teachers will be stationed along the sidewalks of the parade route closest to the school and in the parking lot, socially distanced from each other and your vehicles. We ask for your patience as cars are moving through the drive and to follow the below timeline to the best of your ability.

Arrival Directions:
To help the parade flow and for safety reasons, we will ask families to come at different times alphabetically by last name as follows.
  • Last Name A-D: 2:00-2:15pm
  • Last Name E-J: 2:15-2:30pm
  • Last Name K-R: 2:30-2:45pm
  • Last name S-Z: 2:45-3:00pm
Please do not enter the parade route before the 2:00 PM start time. We will be on site until 3:00 PM or until all cars have passed and "exited" our full parade route.

We want everyone to feel comfortable and safe. We understand not all families and staff will be able to participate in this event for varying reasons. We are looking forward to seeing as many of you who are able to come for this fun Washburne farewell!

(Thursday approx. 7:30pm)
  • Immediately after the graduation ceremony, each 8th grade advisory will be getting together virtually for an Advisory Zoom Celebration.
