Log A Load for Kids Sporting Clay Shoot
|
|
Help critically ill or severely injured Children at Pennsylvania's Children's Hospital's by participating in the PFA/PFPA Log a Load for Kids sporting clay shoot on Friday, October 27, 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM, at the world-class Seven Springs Sporting Clay Course. All are welcome: it makes no difference whether you are a beginning shooter or an experience shooter.

2017 WALK IN PENN’S WOODS SCORES SIGNIFICANT SUCCESS!
|
Sunday, October 1, turned out to be a spectacular early fall day; perfect weather teamed up with an impressive amount of groundwork to introduce the new statewide Walk in Penn’s Woods program. The day brought hundreds of the Commonwealth’s residents out into the woods with their friends and family to learn how our state’s woodlands work for us – from recreation and wildlife habitat to seeing the outcomes of timber harvests and learning about the history of lumbering in Pennsylvania.
Sixty mentored walks on state forests, gamelands, and parks, in the Allegheny National Forest, on municipality-owned watersheds, in city parks, and on the properties of private woodland owners across the state, showcased the many different values we hold for the woods and provided opportunities for visitors to discover the simple pleasure of walking and learning with others in the woods.
The Walk in Penn’s Woods partners would like to thank all the hosts and the many volunteer resource professionals who assisted with this statewide day celebrating Penn’s Woods. We are also very appreciative of our financial supporters who crowdfunded this totally volunteer program, and to the Pennsylvania Forestry Association, which organized a Project Learning Tree workshop on Leading a Walk in the Forest which included an associated grant program for individual walks. The partners are especially indebted to Dr. Allyson Muth, Forest Stewardship Program Association and Associate Director of the Center for Private Forests at Penn State, for her keen, creative and dedicated support which made the 2017 Walk in Penn’s Woods possible.
The Walk in Penn’s Woods partners include The Pennsylvania Forestry Association, The Center for Private Forests at Penn State, Penn State Natural Resources Extension, PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry, the Pennsylvania Sustainable Forestry Initiative, and the Pennsylvania Forest Stewards.

In our July newsletter, we shared the sad news of Paul Lyskava’s untimely passing. Paul was a friend of the industry, a friend of PFA and the Executive Director of the PA Forest Products Association. To recognize Paul’s contribution to the industry and to memorialize his legacy, the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association plans to establish the Lyskava Memorial Trust Fund to benefit Paul’s son, Sean Lyskava, who has autism. The PA Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Fall Training Schedule
|
|
Many folks outside the state’s logging workforce have found PA SFI Professional Timber Harvester Training Program courses to be very informative and useful. Last year alone, nearly 200 landowners, foresters, and other interested personnel attended one or more courses offered through the SFI training program.
All of SFI training classes are open to anyone with an interest in participating. These courses are offered in the spring and fall of each year at locations across Pennsylvania. Please visit our website to review and register for classes:
