City of Tallahassee
Hurricane Prep Webinar
Today, Thursday, June 11, 5:30 pm
It's hurricane season! The City is actively preparing, and residents should begin making their emergency plans and preparations. To guide residents through the planning process, the City will host its second community workshops as part of the Neighborhood Plan for Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) program . Typically, PREP workshops would be held in person, but in light of COVID-19, they will be hosted via webinar this year.

During the virtual presentation and discussion, participants will learn what supplies they should have on hand, steps to protect their home and resources available that can help them and their neighbors organize before and after a storm. The final free webinar will be hosted (today) at 5:30 p.m. on June 11. If you are planning to join the webinar, please complete this brief registration form . Registration is not mandatory, but encouraged. The Neighborhood PREP toolkit and details about how to participate in the webinars are available at Talgov.com/PREP . Five Feet High and Rising: The Geology and History of Great Floods, July 23 & 30, 1:30 - 3 pm. Floods are awesome spectacles and are an essential part of the shaping of our landscape. All the geologic processes of rivers are on display during floods. Hydrogeologist Joe Haberfeld will introduce the stream processes which transport water and sediment during normal flow and during floods.

We will look at some of the great floods in American history and around the world. Not all floods are due to rivers overflowing their banks and not all are due to natural causes. Coastal storms, glaciers, and volcanic eruptions can bring flooding, while man-made structures designed to protect against flooding have failed causing great loss of life and property.

This is a 2 session class. Register one time only and you are registered for both sessions. To register for the class, click here. A Zoom link to join the event will be emailed to you the day before the class.

Brainteaser Challenge
Let's keep our minds challenged and active!

The correct answer(s) to last Wednesday's riddle (Add It Up 8, submitted to Braingle.com by Scubee) are: 1) DE; 2) DIE - a small cube marked on each face with one to six spots; 3) DIVE - to plunge into water intentionally; 4) DRIVE - to frighten or prod into moving in a certain direction; 5) DERIVE - to infer; to deduce; and 6) DEPRIVE.

Congratulations to the three top winners, who all happen to be TSC Foundation members : Steve Mayberry (30 minutes response time); Vickie Goodman; and Benny D’Souza!

We all can use more love in the world, so how about a brainteaser with Love-ly Words (Submitted to Braingle.com by dalfamnest).

Find five words that contain the letters "LOVE" (but these words have little if anything to do with romance). A clue is given for each word as well as the words number of letters. Here’s an example:

CLUE: darling
WORD: beLOVEd

Here are the CLUES:
1. Useful spice (whole or ground) - five letters
2. It is known as the "crocodile bird" in Egypt – six letters
3. Scruffy, bedraggled and slobbish! - eight letters
4. Wore a fingered hand covering – six letters
5. Type of sweater – eight letters

Share your answer with Nancy Gentry, Special Projects Assistant (Nancy.Gentry@talgov.com) ! We will give you a "shout out" during the Friday Update on Facebook , if you are among the first three people to get the answer. Find more brainteasers at www.braingle.com
