EON Reality VR Innovation Academy (VRIA)
Launch and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
UNMC and community leaders cut the ceremonial ribbon on July 25 th to celebrate the launch and inaugural class for the EON Reality VR Innovation Academy (VRIA). This event recognized the visionary influences of UNMC - iEXCEL and its industry collaborator, EON Reality. Pamela Boyers, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor and moderator of the ceremony, welcomed the class of 18 VRIA students and expressed gratitude for the essential support provided by the iEXCEL Advisory Board and community partners.

Keynote speakers included Jeffrey Gold, M.D., UNMC/UNO chancellor; Ken Swain, chairman, EON Reality UK; Dee Baird, senior vice president - economic development, Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce; and Jisella Dolan, global advocacy officer, Home Instead Senior Care. Each presentation touched on the benefits of establishing a virtual reality training program in Omaha, Neb., including workforce development, career enhancement opportunities, the creation of accurate and engaging health care learning content, and ultimately, improved patient care. The VRIA is one of only five in the U.S. and one of 15 worldwide.

Housed on the UNMC campus in Omaha, the VRIA offers 16 weeks of theoretical and practical training plus 33 weeks of project-based learning. Upon successful completion, students receive an EON Reality AR/VR Developer Certification.
