This month brings the spring equinox on March 20 and, on the very next day, the second anniversary of our opening of Edgartown's new library. We're jumping into spring, and into our third year in this beautiful new facility, with a month packed with programs. We invite you to read the details below, mark your calendars and join us.

Chair Yoga Classes Continue March 2, 9 and 16: Fridays at 10 a.m.
This gentle Yoga practice while seated includes movement, breath training and meditation. All levels of experience are welcome for this class led by Carolyn Kildegaard.
Classes continue on Friday mornings through March 16. Please call or visit the library to register for this free series.

My Heart's in the Highlands:
Scottish Society Singers Perform
The Martha's Vineyard Scottish Society Singers, under the direction of Philip Dietterich, will perform songs of nature, love, Scottish triumph and travail. A new setting of the wintry Scottish sea song, Turn Ye to Me, by associate director and composer Dorian Lopes, will be presented by a select group of Island soloists.
Join us for a winter's afternoon of heart-warming harmony. All are welcome.

Opera Club Presents Verdi's
La Traviata
1 p.m. Sunday, March 4
The Glyndebourne Festival's youthful, 2014 production of the Verdi favorite makes it all fresh and new, and introduces the sensational Russian soprano, Venera Gimadieva, as Violetta. Michael Fabiano sings Alfredo, and Tassis Christoyannis, his father. Tom Cairns directs, with Sir Mark Elder conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
All adults are welcome.

AARP Tax Squad Returns
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday,
Volunteers, certified and trained under the AARP Tax Aide Program, will again offer free income tax preparation assistance for taxpayers, with a special emphasis on those sixty years and older.
Sessions are by appointment only and will be held at the Edgartown Library March 5 and April 5. Please c

March 7 at 7 p.m.
Buoyed by Gary Oldman's phenomenal performance as Winston Churchill, the film is a completely absorbing portrait of a great leader, his public triumphs, and his private moments of self-doubt. Directed by Joe Wright. (UK, 2017)

Adventures in Slow Cooking
Chicken Tagine: 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 13
The slow cooker adaption of this rich and fragrant Moroccan chicken stew, laden with complex flavors and spices, couldn't be easier. We'll also demonstrate how to make preserved lemons, an essential for Moroccan cooking, and a delight to have on hand to throw into soups and sauces. Come learn the technique and sample the delicious results.

Women's Winter Film Series Presents
A Taste of Honey
Tuesday, March 13 at 6 p.m.
With its unapologetic identification with social outcasts and its sensitive, modern approach to matters of sexuality and race, Shelagh Delaney's A Taste of Honey -based on her prize winning play-- is still a startling work of realism. Directed and co-scripted with Tony Richardson, a leading light of the British New Wave, it remains a defining film of feminist and working-class cultural movements. Come join us, and celebrate the playwright and screenwriter, Shelagh Delaney. All adults welcome.

Singers & Springers: Crickets, Katydids
and Grasshoppers of Martha's Vineyard
An illustrated talk with Matt Pelikan
3 p.m. Saturday, March 17
Common, widespread, but little-known, the Island's Orthoptera -- crickets, katydids, and grasshoppers -- are the current obsession of Oak Bluffs naturalist and MV Times columnist Matt Pelikan. His eight-year study has documented about 50 species of these genial insects on the Vineyard.
Join Matt for an introduction to the lives of these peculiar critters and some tips on where and how to hear or see them.

The Edgartown Library book group, moderated by Jean Stone, is enjoying another season of lively discussions -- always on the third Wednesday of the month. This group is open to all, and our library staff can help you get a copy of this month's book to read.
Up for discussion on March 21 is Since We Fell, a new novel by Dennis Lehane, author of Mystic River and Shutter Island.
