September 2019
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
Suicide is preventable, and we can all help provide support for people in distress.

If you think someone you know might be considering taking their own life, remember, it's OK to ask. In fact, it's the most responsible action you can take. Join us in supporting suicide prevention awareness today and every day.

What can I do to help someone I know?

Here are 5 ways you can #BeThe1To help someone who may be suicidal.
  1. ASK. Ask them directly, are you thinking about suicide?
  2. KEEP THEM SAFE. If someone says they are thinking about suicide, keep them safe by separating them from anything harmful.
  3. BE THERE. If someone you know is thinking about suicide, be there. Listen without judgment and with empathy.
  4. HELP THEM CONNECT. If someone you know is thinking about suicide, help them build a support system of people they can reach out to, or help them connect to immediate support and resources.
    • Colorado Crisis Services is available 24/7 by calling 1-844-493-8255 or texting "TALK" to 38255 to be immediately connected to a crisis counselor or trained peer specialist.
    • The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at'1-800-273-TALK (8255)' provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, and prevention/crisis resources for you or your loved ones.
  5. FOLLOW UP. If someone you know has been thinking about suicide, follow up with them. It can make all the difference.
Visit the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline  to learn more.

What can I do to show my support?
