Celebrating Local Philanthropy
Myra and George Gordon

Illinois Prairie Community Foundation hosted its annual
Nonprofits Workshop and Celebrating Philanthropy Luncheon on Nov. 15 in honor of National Philanthropy Week.
The team that built the tallest spaghetti tower

Nearl y 100 representatives of local nonprofits attended the workshop focusing on working together. An exercise requiring teams to build the tallest tower out of spaghetti and still hold a marshmallow on top was very successful.

Local philanthropists George and Myra Gordon of Normal were honored at the luncheon that also featured a presentation by a member of the McLean County Diversity Project. Congrats to Myra and George!

#GivingTuesday
Tuesday is #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

If you have not yet given to IPCF's Annual Campaign, this is a perfect time to help your community. Donations to the Annual Campaign help fund the community foundation's General Grants which last year funded 27 programs in our 4-county area

Are You 70½? Do You Have an IRA?
If so, did you know that you could reduce your taxable income by donating your required minimum distribution (RMD) to a qualified charity?

Requirements:
  • Only applies to IRA owners after they are 70½
  • Does not apply to distributions from employer plans
  • Only applies to direct transfers to qualified charities (NOT private grant making foundations, donor advised funds or charitable gift annuities).
Contact your financial planner for details on how to take advantage of this opportunity.
