Doesn't it feel like it was Labor Day like 10 minutes ago??? Or am I the only one that feels like each week goes by in a blur? Since I'm learning to embrace my imperfections, I'll come clean. This was supposed to be my November newsletter. Obviously, I have some time management issues that need to be addressed in the new year:) This is what happens with self imposed deadlines. I might need you guys to set reminders for me. 

For this newsletter, I wanted to share with you a few things that happened in our community in November that have brought a smile to my face (in no particular order). However, it's only right to start with the cute baby...

NAMLE Student Council Member,

Emily Bailin Wells and her husband, Tim, welcomed their beautiful  daughter, Hannah James Wells on November 28, 2017. She weighed in at 8 lbs  9 oz and 20 1/4 inches and is obviously ridiculously adorable. Congratulations, Emily and Tim! Welcome to the world, Hannah! 

NAMLE Leadership Council Member, Julie Smith's book  Master the Media was  selected by the Journalism Education Association   to be their Fall 2017 "One Book". Read more about the honor here . Go, Julie, go!!!!

   

Yonty  Friesem, associate director of the Media Education Lab, Midwest  Chair  of Media Literacy Week, and NAMLE Leadership Council Member will start a new position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Columbia College Chicago in January 2018. This month, we interviewed Donnell Probst , NAMLE Student Leadership Council, for the latest JMLE Author Profile.  Donnell's background in media literacy and special education is the basis for her research in social media, social skills, and disability. Learn more about Donnell, her paper, and her passion for media literacy here . 

NAMLE and our colleagues at The Council of Communication Associations have launched CCA's first ever Youth Media Contest through the Center for Intercultural Dialogue. The contest is open to students enrolled in any college or university during 2017-2018 academic year. To learn more about the contest, click here. Please spread the word.

We have begun planning for the next NAMLE Conference to be held in Washington D.C. in early summer 2019. Help us shape the next event by filling out this survey.
