I love inspirational quotes, especially those about travel. This quote truly describes my group and our last adventure! We recently had a very tight connection on a flight, and I was so afraid we wouldn't make the connection or that we wouldn't get our luggage. We made the flight, but 19 of the 26 bags didn't!
Our tour manager was notified by the ground transfer that we were filling out paperwork for the missing luggage so he was fully prepared for a cranky group of 26 to arrive at the hotel. He told me later that he was shocked when we pulled up and people were smiling and waving at him from the motor coach! From this experience, I have adopted another great quote that has become my personal mantra from Captain Jack Sparrow (yes, the pirate) - "the problem isn't the problem; the problem is my attitude about the problem."
As club directors, we want to provide the best experience possible for our club members, whether it is a tour, movie or social event. We also realize that very seldom does everything go as smoothly as planned, and that we are always going to be faced with challenges. One of the great things about HCI is that we have resources to help us avoid some of the pitfalls through the experience of our fellow club directors, partners and PTOs. We need to use those resources, ask for help and guidance if needed and also share our challenges and how we overcame them to help someone else.
Please join us at the Fall Forum Training in November or at Peer Group in March so we can work to together to make our clubs and HCI stronger!

Tip of the month
A few small adjustments to your marketing will attract more Boomers to your events and tours.
- Use photos of couples or small groups rather than large-group pictures.
- Stress the amount of free time and choices for the way they'll spend their time on tour.
- Focus on the adventure of the destination.

Morning Session
Learn to master the conversations that you dread whether dealing with an under-performing employee, disagreeing with a spouse, or addressing a delicate issue with a customer or family member.
Afternoon Session
Learn key skills to recognize and treat life-threatening conditions and injuries while on tour or at home. You will learn First Aid, CPR, AED skills and more.
Lunch is included in the cost, as well as your training materials. The HCI rate for accommodations is just $79 per night.

Member Spotlight: Debbie Nelson
Central Bank
Cherokee, IA
Debbie Nelson attended her very first Peer Group conference this year in Branson. She has been employed at Central Bank for the past five years, but she only became a club director 2 years ago. As a new director, she was overwhelmed by all of the people and new information at Peer Group, but she found it to be extremely informational and helpful. She says, "They treat you like you've known them for years, and were so willing to give great advice. It was awesome!"
She doesn't have a great deal of travel experience, but as a brand new "empty nester" - now that her youngest of three sons has graduated - she hopes to start seeing the world with her club members. She has been hosting several local events for her members like picnics and art classes. She also just had her first "Coffee and Comvo" for her members to gather and visit with one another, which was a great success. Hopefully, as they get to know each other better, they will want to travel together so her trips start filling up.
On Debbie's first trip, she was able to join Stacy Meyer from the Storm Lake branch to attend a craft show at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota. It was the largest craft expo that she had ever seen. And, it was especially memorable because she spent most of it playing "Where's Albert?" which is the live-action version of "Where's Waldo?" when she lost one of her members not once...not twice....but three times!
