Welcome Back!

August 2, 2018
Principal's Welcome Letter

Dear Hayes Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to our 2018-2019 school year!  I hope your summer was an enjoyable one. As we embark on another academic year, it is filled with anticipation, connections, success, and so many updates for which to be proud.  As we look forward to our school year together, I cannot help but feel reflective and grateful. Last year marked many memorable moments and milestones. Delaware Hayes High School was named one of the top high schools in America by U.S. News & World Report Magazine. Many of our students scored extremely high on State Assessments and every academic department excelled. Our Performing Arts; choirs, orchestra and bands received "Superior" ratings at state and local competitions throughout the year.  Our Visual Arts students placed more pieces in the Governor's Show, our Jr.ROTC cadets placed in the top 10 in the Nation, our senior class earned nearly $2,000,000 in college scholarships, our student athletes competed for Ohio Capital Conference titles in every single sport.  Year four of our "House" system continues to foster connections for our young people, provide leadership opportunities, and was the platform to bring students and staff together in the year-long quest for the House Cup. Congratulations to the students and staff in Sugar Grove House on their exciting win and to all Houses on a very successful year!

Delaware Hayes continues to grow with nearly 1,780 students coming through our doors on Wednesday August 15 th .  We have many new faces at Hayes this fall and collectively we will pursue the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award.  National assessors will be auditing our high school the first week of October. We will keep you updated on our progress. Our faculty used the summer to take additional classwork, update their teaching credentials, and prepare for the upcoming school year.  As teaching and learning continues to develop and evolve, our teachers are preparing lessons to meet the needs of learners in the 21 st Century. Students are encouraged to bring their own learning devices (laptops, phones, Chromebooks, I-pads) to be ready for new and innovative ways to raise student achievement in our ever-changing digital world.  This is an exciting time to be at Hayes!

I want to thank the entire school community for all of your support and I look forward to leading this wonderful high school for many years to come.  I am excited to build upon our traditions and create new and innovative practices that have become the hallmark of Delaware Hayes. As we turn another page together, always remember that my door is always open and I am here to serve you.  I look forward to another great school year together!

Sincerely,

Dr. Ric J. Stranges
Principal

 Clinic Updates

Ohio Law requires that all students enrolled in the Twelfth Grade have a Meningitis (Menactra) vaccine.  The state requires 2 Meningitis vaccines or one if it was given after the 16th birthday. Please provide the school a copy of your student's record by the beginning of the school year.

Just a reminder:

The Ohio Revised Code and School District Policy does not permit using the same Medication Administration form for different school years. Your child will need to have a new Medication Administration form signed for the 2018-19 school year. Forms for the new school year can be picked up in the school office or found online at:

The Delaware General Health Department will be at Hayes on 8/9 from 5-7 pm (during our Back-to-School days) offering teen shots. They will also be available for vaccinations at Dempsey on 8/8 from 4:30-7:00

Please remember to set up your student's appointments with their doctor this summer to get medical orders for the 2018/19 school year.

Please call Shasta McKee, Hayes School Nurse, with any questions or concerns at 740-833-1019.

We have partnered with Final Forms to strea mline the athletic forms process. All forms will be completed online, with the exception of the OSHAA physical form which will need to be printed, filled out by the physician, and submitted to the athletic office. Please click on the links below to access all of the information.
