Celebrating GGUSD Pride in the Fiestas Patrias Parade
|
|
GGUSD school spirit was on full display during the Fiestas Patrias Parade in Santa Ana on Sunday. GGUSD Board of Education members, superintendent, district staff, high school student leaders, drumlines from Bolsa Grande and Los Amigos high schools, and Folklorico dancers from Santiago High School and Clinton Elementary School walked in the parade alongside our bus full of pride to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day. GGUSD loves participating in this annual event. Six of the district’s schools are in Santa Ana and 20% of the district’s students live in Santa Ana.

At its September 17 meeting, GGUSD's Board of Education honored our three OCDE Teachers of the Year including Riverdale Elementary teacher Summer Fox, former Jordan Intermediate teacher Phuong Lam, and Rancho Alamitos teacher Kelli Colombo, as well as our six Classified Employees of the Year, including Vickie Hawkins, secretary of Mark Twain Special Education Center; Yesenia Cordon, Transportation Training Instructor; Ernesto Navarro, Simmons Elementary custodian; Tammy Pham, baker at Los Amigos High School; Maria Velasco, community liaison at Carrillo Elementary, and Maria Mejia, bilingual aide at Wakeham Elementary.

Across GGUSD, the flags at our schools and office buildings were lowered to half staff in remembrance of September 11, 2001 including those whose lives were cut tragically short and the heroes who sacrificed so much during our country's time of need. At Enders Elementary, students displayed flags in remembrance.

Board of Education Trustee Walter Muneton and GGUSD administrators attended a Mental Health Resource Forum hosted by CHOC’s Children’s Foundation Mental Health Advocacy Committee in partnership with the Orange County Department of Education. GGUSD has partnered with CHOC for resources and training aimed at ensuring GGUSD schools are well equipped to support students who may experience a mental health crisis.

Bryant Elementary teachers and staff created colorful signs to welcome back students to a plethora of exciting programs to support learning and engagement.
This summer, seven Bryant teachers attended the AVID Summer Institute, a rigorous approach to learning and studying which will be implemented school-wide. Additionally, Bryant has added exciting arts programs such as Art for the Sky, Little Kids Rock, and its own Mariachi group. Bryant teachers are integrating arts into their content areas which will boost student engagement and creativity.

GGUSD Launches ParentSquare to Expand Parent Communication
|
|
GGUSD has launched ParentSquare, an easy-to-use communication platform to reach and engage every parent, ensuring all parents have the opportunity to actively participate in their children’s education and stay up-to-date on district and school news.
ParentSquare features:
- district and school-wide mass notifications through voice, email, text, and new mobile application
- district, school-wide, and classroom posts received as emails or texts by parents with two-way communication features
- principal and teacher direct messaging with instant language translation using Google Translate
- automated attendance notifications on student absences and tardies
- school calendars and rsvp’s
- teacher to student communication for seventh through twelfth grade students
ParentSquare allows parents to choose how to receive school and classroom communication via email, text, or mobile application. Parents can also select when to receive messages instantly or in digest format at the end of each day. Urgent school-wide messages can be sent through voicemail as well. Parents will receive emails, texts, or voicemail messages to the email address or phone number on file with the school as part of the student enrollment process.

GGUSD’s partnership with ParentSquare will enable a stronger dialogue between school and home, and will help empower everyone within the school community to stay connected and informed.
