Volunteers, Members, & Board of Directors, enjoying some wine at an event earlier this spring

Why choose membership?

Because members keep the grassroots nature of restoration work alive!

Members of the North Olympic Salmon Coalition receive the opportunity to ask questions and dive deeper into what we do. For example, t his past July, we hosted a member event where Representative Steve Tharinger and thirty-five current members joined Senior Project Manager, Kevin Long and Executive Director, Rebecca Benjamin on Marrowstone Island. The event consisted of a tour and an in-depth explanation of the upcoming restoration project at Kilisut Harbor. Member events like this offer an inside look into landscape-scale restoration!

Members also c ount chum returns to guide conservation efforts in our state, volunteer during the school-year to challenge public school students to think critically and consider their impact globally,  restore a legacy of beautiful landscapes for people to enjoy, and  help fund  the early development stages of our projects!

NOSC Booth at Orca Days in Port Townsend

Have You Been Wondering Who is Coming and Going at NOSC?

If you've been watching the newsletter and Facebook, you know that we're hiring!  Some have asked if our beloved staff are leaving. So, we thought we'd give you all an overview of the upcoming changes.

First, we are hiring a new position in Port Hadlock, someone to run our volunteer and education programs. Chrissy McLean has done a phenomenal job of strengthening the Real Learning Real Work program the last couple of years and we're ready to bring someone on for her to train to take the reigns. Olivia and Kory have done a great job of running the nursery, chum and coho surveys and outreach here in Jefferson County, but traveling from Port Angeles is inefficient and detracts from their Clallam County work. So our new coordinator will take the lead on Jefferson County outreach and volunteer coordination as well as education across our region.

Second, our beloved administrative assistant Nancy Erreca has announced her retirement after nearly a decade with NOSC!  While she is irreplaceable, we will try none the less to find a skilled administrator to train with Nancy and take over in the early fall.

Third, we are seeking a project manager for Clallam County.  Kevin will remain in Port Hadlock as our senior project manager and focus on projects in Jefferson County. He will share his knowledge and support with our new project manager who will have a plate full of work on the Dungeness River, Hoko River and more.

And finally, it's our annual hiring for our AmeriCorps intern.  Kory's stay with us has been all too brief, but he's moving on to a great position with WSU Clallam Cty Extension and we'll give another young, vibrant person the opportunity to work with us starting in October.

Whew.

If you think that's a lot, just imagine all the work to sort through amazing applicants!

For more information about each position, visit www.nosc.org and scroll down and look for "We're Hiring!"
