Commissioner Diaz at groundbreaking of Station 29 in Sweetwater

On July 26, Commissioner Diaz participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of one of the busiest fire station in the County - the newly rebuilt Sweetwater Station #29 will be 11,248-square-foot station and will be located at 351 SW 107th Avenue.  This station is very dear to Commissioner Diaz since he worked closely with the firefighters when he served as an auxiliary sweetwater police officer and also when he was Mayor of Sweetwater.  The new station will provide reduced response times and life-saving services to the residents of Sweetwater. It will house one rescue unit, one suppression unit and one Battalion unit with eight uniform personal 24/7. The original Station #29 was demolished and replaced with temporary trailers due to a Florida State road widening project. Part of the funding for the new station will come from a $200,000 grant from the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal's Office; the commissioner sponsored the legislation authorizing the state grant.
