Minuteman Library Crawl and Scavenger Hunt

9am-5pm, Belmont Public Library & 32 other participating Minuteman Libraries
33 Minuteman libraries, including the Belmont Public Library are participating in this year's crawl, a fun way to visit multiple libraries in your area. You can travel from library to library, participate in the scavenger hunt, meet the friendly staff and learn more about what the libraries around have to offer!

 The challenge is to visit as many as you can. Take a picture of yourself with each library's designated treasure hunt item, and post your pictures with the appropriate library tag. Here in Belmont, your task is to find the fiber-optic Frankenstein, in celebration of our One Book One Belmont pick.
Visit 5 libraries, show your pictures to the 5th library on your tour, and win a prize!

Purple
Heart Day Observance and Recognition
Ceremony. Our Guest Speaker will be Belmont resident, Co-Pastor of the All Saints Episcopal Church, U.S .Army Colonel Paul L. Minor, Senior Chaplain, JFHQ MAARNG.
The Town of Belmont honors all of our Veterans and their families and fully supports the need to validate our brave men and women of the Armed Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice or suffered injury at the hand of the enemy during combat.
The Purple Heart Medal is specifically a combat decoration and it is our nation's oldest military medal. It was first created by General George Washington in 1782 and was known as the Badge of Military Merit.
We hope that you will join us in honoring and recognizing the sacrifices made by our nation's Purple Heart Medal Recipients.

Summer Reading ends August 18th!
This year's Summer Reading Program, Libraries Rock!, has got something for everyone, kids, teens, and adults alike! The program ends August 18th; prizes include books for kids, trinkets and gift cards for teens, and an end-of-the summer Kindle Fire raffle for Adults! Rocks in Space! Astronomy Night

No registration necessary
Join astronomer and former NASA consultant, Kevin Manning, for a night of learning about our solar system and star gazing! You'll start the night in our Assembly Room hearing about the size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial wonders using hands-on activities and assorted visuals. Then, weather permitting, we'll venture outside to view celestial objects in the night sky through a powerful hand-crafted telescope, such as the ice crystal rings of Saturn, and craters on the Moon! Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Chenery Book Awards
Each year, the Friends of the Library sponsors the Chenery Book Awards, awarding book prizes to 12 seventh and eighth grade students. The students are selected by their teachers for having demonstrated excellence and growth in English Language Arts. Congratulations to this year's winners: Kate A., Clara B., Madeline D., Bobby G., Maria MG, Davis I., Peter K., Sam L., Anna L., Maeve M., Audrey P., and Patrick HR. Each winner received a copy of
Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes, 75th Anniversary Illustrated Edition.

In tough times, the general store treated customers like family, extending credit when no one else would. Stubborn as New Englanders themselves, the general store has refused to become a mere sentimental relic of an earlier age.
