Dear Friends of The Blue Purl,
Did you know that on this day in history, four-year-old
Louis XIV
became the King of France (1643); Israel was declared an independent state (1948);
Edward Jenner
administered the first
smallpox
inoculation
(1796); and Mark Zuckerberg was born (1984).
So it is with a bit of humility and a good dose of thankfulness that we can tell you today, May 14, there is something else momentous to report:
The Blue Purl is making it. "insert emoji's, confetti, and a funny meme dance"
For the superstitious among us, be sure we have tapped wood three times. But so far, with your tremendous help and support, we are surviving the great coronavirus shut down.
Thank you.
The Blue Purl is a small retail shop owned and operated by women who want to do more than survive. Our aim is not to make a bundle, but to serve our community, nurture and spread the joy of working with your hands, and to provide everyone – from expert to novice – the time, materials and help they need to succeed.
Gosh, it seemed that everything was going so well. Our shop was always buzzing, our tables and classes filled, thanks to all of you.
But the great disruption of 2020 threw that up in the air. And while we would love to get back to where we were, and hope to soon, we have used this time to innovate in ways that we think will serve you and keep our business going. We hope you are familiar with our
website
and if you are not aware, we now also have an
online shop
that will continue to grow.
We also have begun zoom classes (please look just below - there are a few openings!) and continue to offer curbside pick up Tuesdays,Thursdays and Saturdays. And we support and promote local artisans who produce beautiful work. Right now we are featuring a Blue Purl fav, Jennifer Weissman (below) a local designer who put out a new pattern this week.
Ok, so maybe our little shop won’t ever be featured as a historic happening in Wikipedia. Who cares! We know our worth, and we hope you do too.
Thank you, sincerely.

Virtual Shelf of the Week -- Our Baby Shelves
|
|
Welcome to our Baby section. Maybe you have fond memories of it or maybe it's new to you. We have a lot of choices in DK and worsted weight. Some of our favorites are Sublime Baby Cashmerino DK, Lang Cashmerino and Sirdar Bunny, For the heavier weights, we love the Forget Me Not in cotton and Baby Blossom Chunky for blankets and more. Check out the Top This hats for a quick knit for babies or toddlers. That unicorn's mane is too perfect!

Our latest shop sample in the baby section is the
Norwegian Fir Top Down Cardigan. Tam knitted this with only 2 balls of Sublime Baby Cashmerino DK for the 0-3 months size. Bonus- this pattern has sizing from 0-3 months to 8-9 years!

It's not too late to
join
the Blue Purl's knit-along for Breathe and Hope on
Ravelry. We'd love to see your color choices and progress! If you didn't get your kit last week, we have more available
online or
reach out to us if you want a fingering weight combo not in a kit.
"
This is “
Breathe and Hope
” which is a boomerang (asymmetric triangle) shawl. It is for intermediate beginners, and just has slipped sts, k, p, and “made up” knotty stitches on the border (these are not bobbles - they require no turning!)"

Interested in a light weight casual top? This is the
Rock It Tee
by Tanis Lavallee. Knitted in Fingering and Mohair, the possibilities are endless. We think it'd look great in Baah, Tosh Sock or Tosh Merino Light combined with Shibui Silk Cloud or Kid Silk Haze. Pattern is available on Ravelry
here
and it's 25% off with code ROCKIT until midnight, 5/15.

A little help from our friends at Berroco
|
|
From Berroco:
We are aware that many of our LYS have had to temporarily close their doors for their safety in accordance with regulations from their governors. We recognize it's a difficult time for many of our brick and mortar shops. Many shops are transitioning to curbside and e-commerce options but we wanted to help them offer something more! We are happy to introduce Berroco 123 DropShip, to ship Berroco yarns directly to your home.
Isn't that great!
Here (click in) is how it works
...
you find what you want and then call us and we'll place your order and they'll ship it. You can even dip into yarns we don't have in the shop like Lopi Lettlopi for this week's free pattern the
Weatherman pullover
.
Call us!

We can't wait to see everyone's progress on the
Breathe and Hope
Knit Along, and show us your work in progress and finished pieces. To encourage you to post a photo of your finished work for us to admire, we're starting a fun giveaway. Every month, we will randomly pick a posted finished work to receive a $25 gift certificate for the Blue Purl! We'll pick our first winner at the end of May!
